Superb 3.6

Featured Replies

Dear All

Great forum - very informative. I am considering trading in my present vehicle for a new 3.6 Superb estate. I really would be very grateful for any feedback from members of the forum who own this rare beast (either saloon or estate). It just seems like such great value, especially with the VAT special offer applied. Yes, I know it will be thirsty and am prepared for this (current car is a 3.5 V6), its more the ownership experience I am interested in; how it drives, acceleration, handling, ride, comfort etc.

Also - buying tips? I intend to keep the vehicle for long enough to take into account what will be punishing depreciation, however if anyone can give any guidelines on available discounts and where to go for the best deal - again would be great to hear.

Cheers!

Hi Niggie

Have one on order, due to arrive in next couple of weeks

You are right about discounts, got mine for mid/late £20k.

I got loads of extras because I intend to keep a loooong time and want to enjoy to the max. Deprecation is only an issue when you come to sell, so don't!!

Try Drive the Deal or the like, ask your dealer to match, if they can, or call James at Allams a call, he always appears keen to do a deal.

Thanks for your input Sadgit - I will be intrigued to hear your impressions of the car once it has been delivered. Did you test drive a 3.6 or a smaller engined model? Seems they are hard to get hold of to test drive!

No sadly only got to drive the diesel 170 which, though good for an oil burner, lacked about 90bhp and the 4 wheel drive.

Best thing to do is test drive a second hand one , there are a few on the Skoda site, or just call James and hear him "Big up" the V6.

Hi Niggie,

I have V6 Estate for about 3 weeks now and all i can say car is brilliant except front seats...:( in my wife's Octavia they are much more sporty and more comfortable, in Super feeling is like you sitting on Bench ! But all rest is absolutely fantastic! If you expect that V6 will be fast as bullet no it will not be this car is nearly two tons weight and it is a lot...but any way performance is great and i'm more then happy about it ! Xenon lights are best I ever had in any car... Fuel consumption is not as Bad as I expected it is actually pretty economic compared to it's weight and engine size !

And with superb I can guarantee that you will not have feeling that you over payed for car...You will get nearly perfect car for bargain :)

P.s you can fiend here a lot more treads about V6 just search forum and you will fiend a lot good words :):):)

The 3.6 is awesome. Whatever you want to use it for it will perform brilliantly.

Towing, driving along B roads, crawling through town, Autobahn storming, driving on snow, it does everything.

Obviously as you say fuel economy isn't its strong point but it isn't bad for what it is. What car have you got now with a 3.5 V6? I can't really think of anything with that size of engine, maybe a Honda Legend or Accord Coupe?

Drive a Superb DSG and you'll get a good feel for the car. I've got a 1.8TSi at the moment and it drives very well so if you can drive that and you enjoy it you'll love the 3.6 and it makes a cool but not obtrusive noise too.

I drive a 3.6 saloon. I get between 9 and 10 l/100KM normally, better on a run. Not too bad... of course if you waggle your right foot it soon drinks a lot more ;)

Very happy to crawl along, and one pasenger thought it was an electric hybrid as it was so quiet. But let the revs go over 3000 then it makes a nice V6 howl, and the next bend arrives very quickly.

Sport mode on the DSG makes a great job of changing down as you go into bends, but the paddle change works well if you prefer.

Drove it on a lot of snow with tempertures well below -10C (with conti winter contacts) and never had any problems, while all around were spinning and sliding.

Really a lot more power than you can safely use in the presence of the other "excellent drivers", but nice to have it there B)

Really appreciate all those who have taken the time to reply - much appreciated. All in all it sounds like a good car.

Allams Skoda you clearly know your cars, I have a 2008 Honda Legend which is a very similar set up to the Superb, big engine and four wheel drive. I must say the car is fantastic and handles like nothing else of its size, it is a low mileage example and with its build quality it will last forever if I choose to keep it. However with the 20% VAT offer the Superb seems to present an excellent opportunity to upgrade to a new car. It all depends what price I can get for the Legend I suppose!!!

Don't be expecting too much. I got £16.2k for my 58 plate with 8k miles, just over a year ago. I only got rid of mine for personal reasons. Tbh, as nice as the 3.6 superb is, I can't think of any advantages over the Legend. If you were swapping for something more economical then yes, but otherwise I'd keep what you've got. I still wish I could have kept mine even now.

Just think about it and don't rush your decision.

Thanks for this alternative view Deek.

I suppose there are several reasons for casting my eye around, the most rational one being the age old 'what if something goes bang?' The Legend is a rare and complicated car, and once outside of warranty I am worried about parts prices in particular. With a new car you do get peace of mind, however Honda does have a good reputation and the Legend does feel like it is hewn from granite. Then there of course is the less rational reason of simply wanting a change!

Re. part ex prices on the Legend - it is interesting to hear what you got for yours. Looking on the Honda website at present, there are a few 2008-2009 cars with low miles at very steamy numbers. Over the past few months whilst keeping an eye on things I have actually seen used prices rise on these cars, and they tend to get snapped up quickly. They seem to be making a name for themselves, in a good way!

Now, the 'simply feel like a change' reason makes far more sense! I've had 8 new/nearly new cars in 6 years :giggle:

And I'm still married :D

I think you'll be a little shocked if you haven't done much homework. Any large engined, fairly new and Japanese cars don't tend to keep their value well with the exception being the 100 & 200 series 4.2TD/4.5TD Landcruisers and Nissan GTR. I've taken a number of Lexus LS models in recently and I'm shocked at how little I can draw for them, I think it will be the same with the Legend but as long as you're realistic in the values you won't suffer any long term damage!

If you want me to do some homework on it drop me an email with all the details and I'll see what I can get for it.

James,

I PM'd you about a Superb over a week ago, but yet to hear anything.

Do you read your PM's or is an email better?

Cheers,

H
