Problem with new RS gearstick

Featured Replies

I bought a new Octavia RS gearstick off ebay for my 1.4l Octavia but when I went to fit it i found they have differant fittings. Has anyone fitted an RS gearstick to a 1.4l? (i'm guessing 1.6 and 1.9 are the same)

They wont fit. Try a few searches around the word 'knob' and you should be able find out why.

As Q said, it won't work...I believe the 1.4/1.6/2.0 have one type of design, and the 1.8T has another. Not sure on diesels.

:D probably better to do search on here ONLY...not on google :D

err ignore that comment - not the expected results :o

I think a small jubilee clip might do the job though. ;)

Oh, and on the gearstick, not the knob... Keep any jubilee clips away from there! :D

Not convinced...IIRC, the 1.8T knob has a thin aperture and a short shaft, whereas the 1.4/1.6 has a wide aperture and the shaft goes in quite a way...

Thanks lads, my brother works with lathes and stuff think I'll let him have a look at it, he might be able to drill out the extra bit and fit it someway. Otherwise its back to ebay and up for sale :)

I can't speak for the octy's, but a vRS gearknob was on my TDI for all of ooooh, about 8 hours from the time Jon gave it to me, to the time I inverted the car. A jubilee clip held it on dead tight.
