starting issue

Featured Replies

Hi i own a superb 2.5 TDI V6 2005. I used the car last night no problem got in to it this morning won't start Engine turns over but won't fire. I have checked to make sure that their is fuel going through the pump and thats ok. I have checked the fuses in the fuse panel they seem to be ok is there a relay that may have gone or could it be something else. No warning light on the display.

Pleae help as i am now at a loss to what it could be?

Many thanks

I guess it would start in this weather without glow plugs anyway, but I had all 6 changed in my V6 in the winter as it wasn't starting too well. Starts fine now.

Sounds like a fueling issue to me.

Rob

You're going to need a scan, sounds like it's immobilized, carpets dry? probably if it's gone to a full shutdown a cam sensor or similar has failed, no point guessing without a scan though.

what about the key remote battery? possible that it might be kinda flat and not allowing the key to comunicate with the imobilizer?? just a thought...had same problem with a rover v6 i once owned, and that was a flat remote battery that caused it.

Thanks carpet is dry well in the battery I have made sure is always clean as I have read other issues with this. As the fuel is going to the injectors I can't see this as being a fuel problem as recently had the fuel pump rebuilt with a new diaphragm.

I have suspected it to be a immobiliser issue but the symbol on the display goes out this is what's leading me to think it's a relay issue as had the same problem with a Landrover some time ago but this was on a petrol engine. Not completely sure of how diesel engines work but always ready to learn. I think I'll have to get a mechanic to put it on the diagnostic machine to see what's going wrong.

Thanks for your help and I'll get back to you and let you know?

Good luck with it, and hopefully it's not going to cost you an arm.

Just seen the pump thing, I bet that's it tbh, hopefully you still have some warranty on the repair.

Hi all thanks for your help turned out to be the main battery. Not enough power to start the car just enough to turn it over. At least it's not going to cost an arm & a leg.

Again thanks for your help and happy motoring.

Glad you got it sorted. I put a new battery in my V6 TDi last September before its 5th winter. Given we had temperatures as low as -16, I'm glad I did.

Only just seen this and glad you have it sorted, but for future reference:

what about the key remote battery? possible that it might be kinda flat and not allowing the key to comunicate with the imobilizer?? just a thought...had same problem with a rover v6 i once owned, and that was a flat remote battery that caused it.

The battery in the remote ONLY controls the central locking/alarm, the immobilizer transponder does not require power, if it had been a transponder/immobilizer problem then the car would still start - but would cut out straight away.

You could've mentioned it was turning over slowly  glad it's sorted anyway, for the future, if you get alternator warnings on the maxidot, fully charge the battery before you spend anymore out, this one comes on if the battery is asking too much of the alternator, and it might take a few turns of the key before the message goes.
