Starter Question

Featured Replies

Hi, now I have nearly 1,600 on the clock and car nearly did half of that last week I noticed today and yesterday that when starting it normally started in a second, now it seems to take 2 seconds and a little churn of the starter motor. (mine is a second car in the household and mainly used weekends and holidays in the UK)

Normal or is it settling down to ' a 2 second start' ?

Just wondered if anyone else has noticed a slight increase in starter time ?

Many thanks

I haven't noticed a change in the 6000 miles I've done, tends to start almost instantly...

are you using a different fuel?

Used V power until last 3 tanks, 2 of which were BP Ultimate and 1 Esso Supreme 97 ron for last 3 tanks as could not find a shell where we were in the lake district.

Would this effect it ?

I live in the lakes, and use ultimate most times, and use v-power whenever I'm passing Penrith (nearest shell) so it can't be that, I I use a similar mix.....

anyone else?

Thanks, well i guess that rules out the petrol, although next fill up will be with v power.

As Shark said, anyone else ?

Sorry to say but starts instantly for me as well and that's after 10800 miles.

Doesn't sound like fuel to me. Does it make a sound like it's struggling to turn over? How many miles do you do a week?

It's very warm as well so I wouldn't expect cold/frost has got to it.

Don't have a problem starting but find mine a little rough/unsteady if starting later in the day. I hvae put this down to maybe a bit of fuel vapourisation in the system,. settles down after about 15/20 seconds or so. Only really noticed it since it started getting warm.

mine does that every time I start it... always sounds a bit rattly/rough for the first 10 seconds or so... I just took that as a "characteristic".... glad its not just me

Some weeks it only gets used at weekends and some a bit more. However it only just started to take a couple of seconds to turn over after spending a week doing 750 miles ! So actually put a decent amount on the clock in 4 days.

Ill keep an eye on it and if it continues to take 2 seconds or more to start then a quick trip back to the dealer next month might be worth a go. Its nothing too out of line in my book but interesting its gone from instant to a couple of seconds of turning over to actually fire into life.

Thanks guys, although any other comments appreciated.

On this comment 'rough/rattly' mine has always sounded like this for the first few seconds and I dont believe that has anything to do with anything as my dad has the 1.4 TSI 160 unit which is similar and his sounds exactly like this every time it starts up and its done 20,000 miles with no engine issues what so ever The 'rattly' start up sound seems to be a characteristic of the engine.
