Engine not starting help !

Featured Replies

Hi all

Can any one shed any light on the following on my 2 year old petrol 1.6 fsi 12000 mile car.

For the last few days you go to start the Skoda, 10secs of key turning nothing, hear it cranking over etc. Wait about again 10sec later nothing. On 3rd go fires up, but revs to 3000rpm for about 5secs and smell of fual. Then it's fine to restart expect after you have stoped for a few hours and engine go cold and same thing. I gave the car a good run on Friday plus a ittally tune-up but it's done the same over weekend.

Any idea what's wrong ?

James

It does seem with the smell of fuel, that something isn't quite right.

Partial blocked jet in carburretor would upset mixture and give way to flooding and incorrect fuel mixture, reluctance to start and lumpy running.

As it does finally get going would seem to rule-out cracked/ leaking fuel line.

I suggest seek out a mechanic or a garage with this particular problem, unless you are confident enough to do a carb strip

with an access to an air-line for blowing-out stripped carb.

Thanks! I am almost feel like calling out Skoda Rescue if it does not start 1st time today. Before I bother the dealer on Tuesday, guess this is the worst time wise to go wrong!

you dont have a carb, Im going to take a guess at a dirty fuel filter

I would think that you'd be unlucky to have a blocked fuel filter at only 12000 miles, but they're cheap enough so it wouldn't do any harm to change it if it is an easy job to do.

Could be bunged up injectors. You could try running some of the petrol type injector cleaner stuff through. It's sold in small bottles that you add to one full tank of fuel.

I would also check the battery, to make sure it's got enough oomph for a quick clean start. As a quick and easy test, try charging it overnight to see if that makes a noticebale difference.

Hi

Its still under warantee, all those ideas sound ok. The battery is good, checked voltage etc. Today at 11 it started no problme the 1st time in about 5 days. Would the rest of issues show up on VCDS (vag-com)? Thinking when I call the dealer in the morning.

Get it down to Skoda ASAP if as said still under warranty. emoticon-0148-yes.gif
