I have recently taken delivery of a new Octavia Elegance 2.0 TDI and am considering having Trafficmaster's Smartnav installed. However, I understand that the Octavia has a CANbus wiring system. Does anyone know if this is likely to pose a problem for the installation of Smartnav?

Hi Salmac,

No problem whatsoever - Smartnav requires perm +ve & -ve feed + I am sure a switched +ve, which if nowhere else could be derived from the back of the stereo and then a GSM and GPS antenna, both of which are supplied with the kit. I would recommend, if you can afford it, to get the touch screen as it does make it a much neater unit to use. Get it fitted professsionally, if you're not sure how to go about it!

Many thanks for the reply, John. That's reassuring. If I do go ahead I'll get Trafficmaster to install. Will bear in mind what you say about the touchscreen. I had rather dismissed it because I can't see where it could conveniently be sited.

One further question about Trafficmaster, John. How neat is the installation? Where do you have the speaker and button? Presumably it is necessary to cut a hole(s) in the dashboard to accommodate them.
