Brakes

Featured Replies

So seems as though my brake problem at MOT might be down to calipers (could be other stuff), and my discs and pads seem to be worn, so looking to replace them. Any recomendations? Ive heard that a combination of drilled and grooved may be the best? But what make? Do i upgrade or buy from skoda? Links would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Chris

I use E-Bay at present unbranded rear discs and pads for my 2005 Fabia VRS £28.95 all-in, (just put them on yesterday.)

Front discs and pads "Mintex" brand around £76 all-in.

Rear discs as you know rust quickly because major braking takes place on the front.

Seems a waste to put drilled and grooved discs on the rear (my opinion).

As to the front (I use) 'Mintex' discs and pads. I find them quite adequate in efficiency.

Braking efficiencies on the front can be improved with use of larger brake calipers, larger drilled and grooved brake discs and using the likes of 'Greenstuff' disc pads.

PS I will add the brake shims/ guides will not be supplied with E-Bay sellers brake pads, (only the bolts).

You would have to purchase from a Skoda parts dept. (at a higher price) your brake pads with has both bolts and brake shims/ guides being included.

Drilled and grooved are a waste of money unless you buy really good drilled and grooved discs, a set of decent powerful calipers, and don't mind chewing up a set of pads on a track day.

If you want good stopping power get a set of cupra r or porsche 323mm brakes or even just the 312mm setup.
