Featured Replies

Got a bit of a road trip tommorow as im off to look at Superb 1.9tdi elegance 2005 plated car Sat Nav all the toys etc so what should I be looking for in way of problems?

It has 200k on it with history im told what sort of price should I be looking to pay?

I have looked in the forum and seen about reverse parking sensor issues n dodgy pollen filter water ingress so what else she I pay attention to?

Thanks in advance

3k max and less if you can get it.

just out of interest where did you get the 3K figure from?

Being looking on autotrader, ebay and most other places and the prices are all over the place even Classics with similar mileage can get around the 2.6K mark?

200k miles mate, if you wanna pay out more for a car that has effectively had 3/4 of it's expected life cycle that's your choice, a year ago I sold mine, it was a comfort 1.9 automatic, nice condition and half the miles the one you are looking at, dealer gave me 3k for it, and it went on A/T and iirc the selling dealer had to let it go for 3 - 3.5k in the end, it sat for 8 mths on the lot, they don't sell well and if you want to buy one you should become a wallet bully when you go look at one, if you don't believe me run it through WeBuyAnyCar, I bet they won't offer £1k for it.

I thought Superbia was being pretty generous with £3K :giggle:

Personally I would be looking at much closer to £2K - and I would even consider it if it has suffered the water ingress as that could potentially cost you almost as much again to get put right (depending on your DIY skill levels and the level of damage caused).

As for a Classic with 200K on the clock for £2,600 he may be asking that but I bet you it doesn't sell for that!

Just reading this thread...200k miles seems a fair old bit. I would have thought the engine would be tired and all the components were coming to the end of its service life, not to mention wear in the interior what with the electric seats going back n forth a number of times a day, and no matter how many stamps the vehicle has had, its still a high mileage car at the end of the day, and also the number of previous owners, who incidentally all drive differently.

As supurbia knows i recently got rid of my superb comfort, and although i had to say goodbye to it for certain reasons, i did manage to find it on A/T and i think the garage concerned is beginning to realize that the price they were selling it for was bit ott to be honest. But then again given what the car has got now, ie a new engine, new cambelt, new water pump, new mot,new battery and it drives like brand new without any of the issues the superb suffers from and it's a one owner car. I am beginning to wonder what the car will actually sell for!!

I did get a rough idea, but it depends on what they are supplying for the warranty, and being a new engine, it is possible the inital fault has now been taken care of, and it would be quite possible that the original fault will never appear again, but at the end of the day, if i had the money, i'd chance it and buy it back.probably one of the nicest car's i've driven.

well its one owner from new, full stamped Dealer service history everything works even parking sensors  except sat nag as it comes up cd defective?????? even pollen filter was clean n white.

Body work was spot on except for stone chips to bumper and small dent to top of drivers front wing size of a 5p.

He will put full MOT on and were are currently at a disagreement on cambelt as it was done at 134000 mile and being as its 12000km for cambelts then it must be due at 208000 miles (cause 120km is 74564 miles isn't it and not 80000 miles)

Water pumps are they rubbishy plastic impelers on them like the Octavia?

Check that it was serviced on the correct oil - by a main dealer or not - otherwise you will be looking at an expensive camshaft replacement jobbie.

Water pumps: the problem is not the impeller - although the plastic ones can fail and there are metal impeller replacements available - but the main problem is that the w/p bearing can seize and strip the cambelt - and that's when it gets expensive. I had a waterpump bearing seizure on an otherwise 100% reliable car - a Nissan Primera - and it was scary - lots of smoke due to slipping belts! Luckily on the nissan there is a timing chain for cams and a separate belt for the water pump. But VAG design things differently.
