Columbus Sat Nav Loses all Satellites in warm weather

Featured Replies

My 2011 vRS hatch has started to lose all satellites when the days are quite warm.

Has anyone had this? I would guess its a problem with the sharks fin antenna as that is the only thing that would be really affected by temp changes.

Have just come back from France. Was pretty hot at times.

No issues at all with Columbus. Worked perfectly!

Hi Dominocdp,

Was the Columbus factory fitted if you have the sharkfin? It sounds as if you could be in the right area. Regardless of the outside weather when in use the Columbus would get pretty warm so if the unit itself was sensitive to thermal issues you'd see them a lot more randomly, it could be dry solder joints in the plated thru holes of the receiver pcb expanding in heat.

Would your unit be in warranty? It depends how far you want to go, you can easily get hold of a generic wired satellite receiver and temporarily install it yourself (there's a great posting on here on how to install a Columbus and a non OEM receiver), they work just as well so if it works for you I'd just leave it like that.

Of course if everything was factory ordered then I'd hot foot it straight back to Skoda and get them to take a look.

Best of luck.
