Which Thule system - advice please

Featured Replies

Hi....have just bought a 2009 Octavia 1.4tsi Hatchback and noticed that instead of having any mount fixings on the roof it has small recesses and a hole in the top of the door well. Looked at a few roof rack sites and Thule seem to be the best I think but I'm not exactly sure which one I should be buying as I'm sure these little holes must have a purpose in the door recess? Any advice welcome. I've not yet picked up the car yet so don;t have the instruction manuals etc. Many thanks.

Hi - I can't find it - can you give me the link please?

Thanks

Doesn't really answer your question but I have a Halfords Advanced roof bar system (I have the Estate so already have the mounting railings) but it is in fact a Thule system, and is compatible with Thule single-key packs for locks etc. Might be worthwhile investigating if they do a mounting kit for non-roof railed cars as this might keep the cost down somewhat.

Try www.roofbox.co.uk

Their car finder tool will give you a complete list of what rails, feet and adaptor kits fit your car, adaptor kit includes locating pins for the recess in the door frame. You can then opt to purchase from your chosen supplier.

I tried the adaptors I bought for my new Superb yesterday for my existing feet and bars. FIr was very good.

Thanks - will try them out. One other little question...being new to the Skodas...not actually picked up the motor yet!!

My car is the 1.4tsi Octavia Hatchback registered in 2009....does that make it an Octavia II or III? Bit confused on this one as there is an overlap in 2009 between the two Octavia models.

Why not ask the people whom you are buying the car from??emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Yip - shall do when I pick up the motor but they are a Vauxhall Dealer so make of that what you will.

I thought I would ask the experts...do you know but not telling :giggle:

There is no Octavia III yet, it is just the pre facelift and facelift Octavia II. If it is a facelift car then the front lights wrap around the wing a little more and has Octavia written on them. Although I think the 1.4TSI came out on the facelift cars so it should be a facelift one.

The 'feet' part of the system, have a little nob which fits into the whole you are talking about. They also have a rubber mound which fits on to the ridges running down the side of the roof.

I actually have mine to sell, along with the area bars, I had a mk2 2005 Octavia, are you anywhere near Newcastle upon Tyne?

It is good system BTW, I used it most weekends to carry a couple of bikes for the last year so wanted something secure and sturdy.

I have just bought a new Thule roofrack for a MKII and am very impressed with it. I had a MKI before and had to replace the whole Thule system as it is fitted differently which was annoying. Although the MKI had proper fixing points, the MKII almost seems sturdier and is slightly easier to fit. The car guides on the roofrack websites will tell you the particular bits you need but it's basically the 1360 (or 1594 if it's a MKIII) fitting kit, 754 footpack and 869 bars(aero). I got the footpack and bars on ebay brand new from towequipe for £104 and the fitting kit is pretty much £30 wherever you look.

Danntec how much are you selling them for? Any pictures interested in them

Thanks

thanks again folks - I have two Thule roof racks already (I'm a surfer) so have the bars just the footpacks/locks etc needed. Just wasn't sure which ones as I was a bit unsure too of which Octavia I was getting - was it a II or III - all a bit confusing!

It is the facelift sort in 2009 so by the looks of it then it is a II and I need the 754 footpack and locks.

754 is an updated 750 or 740- if you already have the foot pack that the bars attach to then all you will need is the adaptor kit

Should be these brought mine on e-bay for £50 it was a bargain as they cost £170 new.Thats with the bars as well.
