FurbVRS top speed

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I went abroad recently. My faithful Furby VRS was allowed to run as fast as he could and the speedo read 150mph. Maybe there would have been more with a hill and/or tailwind, but from a turbo diesel (albeit with Revo code and air intake mods) I was plenty pleased.....

I took a picture and saved it as my profile pic.

Remember this was taken where the speed limit is considerably higher than the UK....

YOU took a picture whislt driving at 150mph ?

I set the phone up to take pic, kept it in my lap, got to the speed (rock stready, no crosswinds) took pic without taking eyes of road or other hand off wheel - job done.

BTW - - I know that the real speed is prebably around 135.... Speedo error must account for upto 10% although I would be interested if anyone has done a speedo versus real speed comparison.

Diesels (even turboed) are not really set up for top speed, because even with the longer gearing, top speed is about power. The power tails off over 4500 in mine (standard it's finished by about 4) and even though it revs to 5200 in every gear - except 6th - it'll never get those last few mph...

Acceleration runs I have done have also shown 6.5 secs 0-60 and a 0-100mph time of around 15 seconds. this is more real world performance. In gear times are v. good too. Fuel consumption is superb too.

Just to finish, the Furby VRS is a spankingly good little car!

shouly be easy enough to calculate actual speed from the rev counter.

What revs in 6th were you doing?

4500rpm , maybe just over?

There was an old thread for gear ratios:

04 model - 5.67,10.24,16.14,21.88,27.15,32.51

Using this, let's say 4500 revs - 32.51 x 4.5 = 146.295mph

Is that right???

..oooh never heard of calculating an accurate speed using this method before. Does this actually work and are they the right ratio figures for an 04 Furby VRS...anyone?

Well 32.51 x 4 = 130 mph, which sounds about right given peak power is produced at 4000 rpm.

Makes sense to me.

Maybe my Revo code is set up for a bit more power higher than 4000? It certainly pulls well long after 4000....

I am pretty sure that the air intake and extra air to the intercooler help when going for high speeds.
