Vag-com to fix boot?

Featured Replies

Hi all

First time poster here!

I've had a 51 plate 1.9 SDI Fabia Estate for about 6 months now and found it to be a very nice car!

Had a few niggles here and there, such as the passenger electric window mechanism breaking and costing £150 to fix.

Anyway... Something that's been bothering me is the boot. I thought one of the wires was loose because sometimes it opened, and sometimes it didn't. But after reading a few threads on this forum I've found that the boot will only open once a passenger door has been opened.

This is very annoying, because 9 times out of 10 I'll unlock and try to open the boot... but can't unless i open & close door other than the drivers door.

Why skoda made it work this way, i don't know!

I was hoping someone could tell if it's possible to use a VAG-COM (which a friend has and is happy to lend me) can fix this?

Many thanks in advance!!

Dan

I would say that could well be a faulty boot lock mechanism.

VCDS (formerly known as VAG-COM) could well flag up an error in this area, and help you identify the source of the issue, but I don't think it will solve the issue for you on its own.

I thought it could be faulty switch or the electrics that release the boot... but after thorough experimentation i've found the boot will only open after a passenger door has been opened.

Best to run a VCDS scan then - see what pops up :)

Will do - thanks Wardy ;)

Your next question should be-- "Can anyone in my area do a scan on my car?"

There are many a helpful Briskodians on this forum that will help you out for beer money.

Mine is bloody intermittent at the best of times.

I'm assuming the switch is to blame so i'm going to remove it and simply use a couple of wires to simulate the switch and see if it works better. If not, it must be the solenoid. Either way, i'm sure it'll be easy enough to sort out.
