1999 Octavia 1[45000 miles], replaced MAF 7 months ago which transformed performance. Recently, power seems down but only intermittently(!) ..........could it be the MAF again or is it more likely something else?

To test the maf un plug it and go for a drive, if your problem remains its something else.
