Any creaking / cracking noises??

Featured Replies

Just wondered if anybody else had strange noises from their dashboards on Octy 2's when using the heater.

When the dashboard warms up in cold weather whilst using the heater >22 degrees it makes annoying noises as it expands. This then carries on when you put the heater to cold and the dash cools back down.

Its starting to drive me nuts!! My Octy 1 vRS didn't make a sound even after 3+ years. :(

MIne has not creaked from the dash but did so from the "Transmission Tunnel". This seems to have gone away of its own accord.

Yes | get similar noises, mainly from the dash area but sometimes from the region of the heating ducts under the front seats. Like yours, they seem to occur as the heater warms up but the also happen when I alter the temperature setting.

On a slightly different theme - on a couple of occasions there has been a really loud bang, as though a stone has been thown up by another vehicle and has hit a window bodywork. On one occasion there were no other vehicles near to throw up any debris. I have inspected the car and could not find any damage other than a very monor stone chip on the bonnet and a small 'star crak' on the front numbe plate.

Have you experienced similar noise?

Regards

Have had the same noises, they seem to be only when the heater is used. They are only coming from the dash area.Hope that it will settle down over time.

Phew. Thought it was only me. Yup, had the same noises, when the heater is turned on. Beginning to irritate me.

Have you mentioned it to the dealer by any chance??

Oh yeah - intermittent sharp click/crack from middle of dash. Plastics at the back rattling too. Brought it back for the latter (as the dash didn't revolt until lately!!) and saw a young fella superglue and tape oddments at the back. Only marginally better, as you might imagine.

I hate the idea of creaks on a new car, but it still is the best-handling car I've ever had, and comfortable to hell!! We have a Seat Alhambra, 1.9TDI also, 3 yrs old and it shakes a bit too on the plastics.

Roads in the South Of Ireland!! (thought I'd say it first, meself!)

Yes me too.

Octy 2 with split CC.

Sometimes a loud creak other times a sharp crack.

Putting down to expansion of the plastics in the area of the radio.

Sometimes when going over speed humps (slowly).

Will eventually take it back, although dealers hate these problems.

Yeah mine cracks when you change the heater settings, I'm guessing it's the plastic expanding or contracting.

Regarding the loud bang a poster has mentioned, i've had this happen three times. In my experience it coincides with starting the car and quickly putting it in reverse, the bang actually comes through the speakers and i'm assuming I am confusing the radio and rear parking sensors which are both tryting to activate at the same time.

The bang is not unlike when you plug or unplug home audio seperates components together with the power on, I thought someone had thrown a stone or something the first time too!

I've had an annoying creak from front passenger footwell area-local dealer had a go(the passenger air vent was taken out though...)....still happening though.....

I've also had the loud crack/bang noise-normally when starting car & putting it in reverse(through the speakers-certainly wakes me up in the morning-only changed the undercrackers twice now...getting used to it!!)

With regards to the crack from the speakers, check with your dealer as there is a recall to update the radio software. There are various posts about it on here.

It has reduced the RF interference on my Octy (fitted with the Stream audio unit)
