Electronic engine management light

Featured Replies

Hi and sorry if posted in wrong section as I am new to this forum...

Earlier today the Electronic engine management light on my Skoda came on (and stayed on) with a loss of power.

Luckily I was only a mile away from home and so drove slowly back.

Does anyone know what it could be please?

I bought the car in November 2010 from a dealer and it's not under warranty anymore :-(

I checked the oil and it's just above the maximum (I check it regularly and have never had to add any, so last time there was oil added was by the dealer when they had a service/MOT done in November before I bought it)

I checked the coolant and there is lots of foam with a light brown color. Again I haven't had to add any since I bought it.

I hope someone can help!

Many thanks :-)

With what you say about the foam, sounds like cylinder head gasket has gone and oil is mixing with coolant, :S. Was it pink, the coolant when you bought it?

I'm not sure about the colour of the coolant, I'll ask my partner tonight if he can remember and let you know!

If it's the head gasket, is it an expensive thing to change? (sorry I don't know that much about cars but I have the impression than it is expensive...)

Thanks :-)

Hi Tiana welcome to the forum

to be honest it could be anything your ecu has probably gone in to limp home mode because it has sensed something wrong any answer you will get will be speculative /best guess.

if you post your location someone with a vcds diagnostic lead/software might offer to help you out.
