Skoda/VW Finance charge for number plate change?

Featured Replies

I've been reading the T&C from VW Finance and note there is a £50 admin charge for any change of number plate. I never had to pay this last time I bought a car via them, has anyone here been charged this? The dealer is handling the number plate change for me but obviously the finance can only initially be arranged on the cars current registration.

I don't think I ever advised VWF about the swap last time but my settlement quote arrived with the correct registration details showing.

No they didn't charge me either but they DID take an absolute age to do it and blamed the DVLA. The previous time I did it myself at the DVLA office in Preston and it was done in minutes so I've no idea why it took so long. They had the "old" car and they had the "new" car and the same DVLA office is two minutes up the road. Maybe it's not a simple swap via the dealer route but as I said, when I did it myself, it took minutes to sort out. The queueing time at the DVLA office was longer than the process itself.

The dealer are not charging me, my concern is that VW Finance will want a £50 admin fee if I advise them of the registration swap so that their computer records are accurate.

I would imagine you would only pay this if you changed the plate during the agreement. The agreement from the outset should be raised with the cars reg no from 1st registration so as long as the car is first registered directly onto the private reg and the finance agreement raised showing that reg there should be no charge.

Alternatively if its a used car make sure the finance agreement is raised after the plate change has gone through. You shouldn't need to sign the agreement until you collect the car at which point it should all be finalised anyway.
