Spark plug advice

I have just checked my receipt and the sparl plugs I have fitted are part number is 101905631H as listed for my engine according to TPS. I have just read another thread here and that states the correct spark plugs formy car is actually 101 905 631 B and that the plugs I have are meant for higher power variants and it may cuase damage to my pistons? Is this correct? I bought them from TPS and they were the ones listed for my car.

Any ideas anyone?

I am just speculating here, but I understand the letter after the part number denotes an upgrade to a part. Often the new part number replaces the old completely but not always. The new part number might be completely different in fit and size and still do the same job on a newer car. Other times it could still fit the old car but be unsuitable since it was intended for a newer model car.

I would suggest talking to a Skoda dealer. Or, send these guys and email http://stores.ebay.co.uk/The-Skoda-Parts-Shop I understand they are a real main dealer selling VAG parts on Ebay and they are willing to advise on fitment of OEM parts?

The only way a spark plug could damage a piston is to come into contact with it.

Generally speaking different grades of spark plugs ignite fuel at different temperatures, so a range of cold through to hot plugs are available.

Use of the correct spark plug optimises the fuel being ignited most efficiently for that engine.

Suggest contact Skoda to get first hand what grade of spark plug is required for your vehicle.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Check out JKM's website they stock iridium plugs which are a heat range cooler than standard and help to make the engine run smoother if you're mapped

I would think the std plug in a vrs is iridium plugs, the fact the cars running a turbo, and most cars now have them as std due to the newer type of ignition systems were each plug has it's own coil. just had a look on the ngk web site and the plug part number starts pfr. so that indcates a high range plug

Reading a few posts on similar VAG sites (TT, Mk5 etc) that the new revised plugs are made by NGK and the part number is PFR7S8EG and the VAG part number is 06H905601A. These are a step colder than before as the previous OE bosch versions were 6. I know JKM now stock irridum plugs with the same 7 heat range and also 8. Im going to get a set of the NGK OE plugs on friday and see how they go? Im going for them as they are half the price of irridiums from my local TPS centre. I think the 8s on my car would be too cold at stage 1 and also on stage 2 as they would foul pretty quickly but would be fine in cars like Harrys or stage 2+ as his produces a bit more power than the average VRS :giggle:

I would presume the move to a colder standard plug by VW would be to get rid of the sometime unexplained misfires people are reporting under full throttle acceleration. Or if your Harry...warp speed! lol
