new engine needed

Featured Replies

hi, im looking for a new engine for a td octavia mk2 , some how one of the driver put the con rod though the side of the engine, its used as a taxi.

the car is in sawbridgeworth essex and we need to work out if its worth fixing , local mechanic had said new engine, any help would be great thanks

yeah, new engine for sure if the rod has gone through the block. Might be able to get a reasonably low mileage one from a scrapyard. Assume it is a PD105 engine if in a mark 2 octavia, not a 2 litre? PD105s can be found in Golf mk5, Audi A3, etc so should be relatively common.

what caused the rod to go through the block?

A friend of mine managed this in his Honda CRV by running the engine with no oil for a while, going to the Nurburgring, and then driving flat out back, towing a caravan! The engine took 4 litres of oil after it started knocking, and blew up a few hours later!

You may also need the ECU from the donor car to save any messing about

No he won't  nothing ECU related etc when it comes to just changing a like for like engine. The injector wiring loom will be the same too. B) As for reasons why the engine threw a rod, well would normally be due to lack of oil, rod breaks off and goes through the engine block. Been in a V8 van in Canada when the engine started to die and eventually threw a rod, was quite impressive. :D

Over revving will do it that's for sure, the big end bolts normally stretch.
