Right car is due a service and am going to do the plugs as well what ones are people using? The car is re-mapped to 220bhp.

NGK are the best spark plugs. You should choose the iridium ones.

I've always used NGK platinums on all my mapped VAG 1.8T's, & never had an issue.

NGK BKR7E in mine, no probs, cheap as chips.

Iridiums last longer, but cost a lot more in the first place, and give negligible performance increases, depsite the marketing.

Yeah, NGK will specify the platinum ones, as they are OE.

I did my NGK Platinums every 20k now that I have swapped to the cheaper plugs mentioned earlier I'll drop that to every 10k.

Probably complete overkill. My last ones came out after 20k looking almost like new :o

I think that spark plugs last at least 60 000 kms. It depends of course how you drive the car.

The official interval is 4 years or 60,000km (~40,000 miles).

I always use the proper standard fit plugs in mine (NGK PFR 6Q). Which are the NGK "Double Platinum" plugs.

The BKR 7E is the NGK "V-Grooved Type", and isn't listed for the car.

NGK list an upgrade plug for the car that's the IFR6Q-G, which is in their "Iridium" range.

TBH I will be doing this next service. For some reason I decided to cheap out on the plugs this time round and went with the recommendation of many on here. No idea why, sometimes I make these random decisions though, like when I decided to swap from Castrol Edge / Mobil 1 to Quantum for a couple of services. No real reason why, no noticeable difference yet I am back on the Castrol / Mobil again now :$

totally agree, bkr7e are perfectly good, I have done many thousands of varied and hard miles on these, don't get taken in by the fancy advertising :)

another +1 for these. A lot of people recommend them for mapped cars too. For this price I replace them every service :thumbup:

Do these cheaper v-groove plugs not put extra load on the coilpacks though?

I wonder if there is any correlation between coilpack failures and non fine wire plugs.

I don't think there is any denying that a small diameter platinum electrode is better than a standard type broad nickel alloy electrode.

Hi Bodge, they are not V grooved.
