comfort/conveinience module

Featured Replies

Hi guys this is my 1st posting, ive just brought a fabia 1.4 8v comfort quite cheap as it has a fault with the c/locking & electric windows control unit (window switches & mirrors reversing!) Never heard of that happening on a car before! I would like to know exactly where this unit is located & how to remove it also i plan to get a used 1 from a scrappy do they need to be coded to my car or are they just plug in & away you go? Many thanks chaps & chapesses.

This is located just above the pedals......thing is you need to remove the lower section of the dash  ...and then you need to recode the new unit to the car with a VAGCOM type diagnostics device B)

When you say that the windows and mirors are reversing??? what exactly??? :S

I have one lying around if your interested, I thought mine was faulty but just needed a new alarm siren,

By reversing i mean the left window switch operates right (drivers)window & same with mirror switch...central locking not working at all. I took off lower section of dash & only unit i can see is above throttle pedal with lots of plugs going into it on both sides it doesnt look like the conveinience unit to me (i have looked them up on ebay) What is the cost (roughly) of having a vagcom diagnostic on a secondhand one of these & i only have 1 key (not remote) for the car can they do it from this?

The ecu is above the clutch pedal.

'dave_l' how much do you want for it & whats the part number on it as i guess there will be a few different versions

Don't talk to me about Fabia central locking. Had one in recently, central locking not working at all and a window regulator broken. No faults recorded, fuses intact, tried another convenience unit which didn't make any difference. Isolating each locking unit at the A and B post connections made no difference, measuring the resistance of each lock motor showed resistance values different to those of a known good motor and they did nothing when powered up. It turns out that all four lock motors are faulty, confirmed by a replacement working which was tried when the door was stripped down for the window regulator change.

To add to the fun, both rear doors can't be opened as they are stuck on dead lock, though the customer doesn't want the work done at £100 a corner for parts and alot of labouras an accurate time can't be given for the rears.

Ok got the convenience module out..a bit fiddly but not as bad as i thought..i tried electric windows, c/locking, mirrors with the unit removed just to see what would happen & its exactly as it was before removing it! I thought they wouldnt work at all with this removed so does this mean the unit is completely dead or is there some other problem? I plan on getting a secondhand 1 will i have to have it coded to my car? If so anyone know where in Norwich i can get this done (not main dealers), cheers.
