US headunit

Featured Replies

Hi,

If the Pioneer DEH 7600MP unit i have turns out to be a USA unit, what can i do? What effects does this have and is there any solution other than buying a U.K unit???

The main difference is in the tuner, both FM and AM.

The FM tuner will have no RDS, and will be unable to tune into most UK stations because the band step is different.

The AM tuner will pickup nothing again because of the different band step.

The CD player, and changer control etc are all the same as the uk.

it has super tuner III on it <-- unsure of what that is. but if it doe not have RDS does that mean it will not automatically find the stations? Could i just manually skip through and find it?

it is also "XM" ready ???

XM is the USA digital radio system, totally different to ours done via satalite. RDS is a system where the radio will retune automatically if you drive out of signal range (assuming its a national station). RDS also has station name and traffic info options. The reason you wont be able to get all stations on FM is that the USA use steps of .5 to tune in eg. 88.5, 89.0, 89.5 and so on, whereas we are 88.5, 88.6, 88.7 and so on, so unless the station you want to listen to ends in .5 or .0 you are stuck. Eg. Radio 1 is 98.8 and Radio 2 is 89.1 . You will have no problems with Kiss 100 on 100.0 though.

I used to have an American Alpine headunit.

As mannyo says XM satellite is definately a US spec. The tuning steps on the radio are different but I was able to get a strong enough signal on the radio stations i wanted.

All of the BBC stations are available across quite a wide range of frequencies so you shouldn't have a problem getting those.

My Alpine tuned in even steps of 0.2 e.g. 97.0, 97.2, 97.4

I think you should be able to get what you want, but it'll just be trial and error when you get it.

Good luck!!

Hi ,

I bought Pioneer DEH 7600MP from USA.Is there any way to fix the FM band step from 0.2 to 0.1?

Hi ' date='

On my pioneer DEH 8600 MP you can change the FM band stap from 0.1 to 0.2 in the settings menu. This is the same menu that you choose red or green illumination for the display, you access the menu by holding one of the buttons down with the unit off.

As for digital radio:

XM = USA

Sirius = USA

DAB = UK

My Pioneer is 'DAB-ready' as it is a UK model. US models are 'XM ready'. The OP most definately has a US model on order if it is XM ready.

I have a DEH 8600 MP, but I cannot find the menu where I can change from 0.1 to 0.2 step. Which button should I press and for how long in order to get there? Is there any code which has to be entered?

I found only how to fix the clock and AUX input on/off, but nothing about radio.

Please help

There is little point going from 0.1 to 0.2, the change is only relevant if going the other way to get UK stations on a USA HU. If the option is missing then it also looks like the step change is ommited from the US version of the HUs software.

Is it possible to have the software replaced/updated?

However this thing with the FM for US units different than the EU, it's just another political **** between the US and EU
