2nd gear difficult to engage when cold?

Featured Replies

Hi,

2nd gear has become difficult to engage first thing in the morning. It doesnt crunch or grind but feels stiff then snatches the gear. It engages perfectly when the box warms up.

I recently changed the gearbox oil (@92k) with genuine VAG fluid ordered against my VIN.

Any ideas what it could be and how to solve it?

Thanks

Mat

Mine does this, master cylinder is on it's way out. :-/

Have you adjusted the gear change cables???? B)

Or oil? I know mine was problematic until I changed (well, the garage did under warranty) the oil and alligment. Mine affected 3rd and 5th though.

Not a clue, it just started out as that, slowly got worse with 1st when cold too, then not coming outta gear sometimes too. Release bearing is new in it, so the master cylinder was next on the list :smirk:

The oil level is perfect.

The gear cables must be set correctly as all the other gears are okay especilay 4th and 6th and when its warm the problem goes away.

Its a tricky one!

Worth doing the cable alignment, it only takes 20 minutes, and the alignment can effect a single gear, in fact it's quite common.
