TSI 85 on Roomster

Featured Replies

I dropped my car off at MSB this morning to have the wormed badge sorted and squeaks sorted out.

I was given a Roomster SE TSI (85). Wow, really love it! Rides better than the Yeti, but feels little more top heavy and it sits lower.

Wind noise etc is very similar, but road noise is much lower (it has Continental Premium Contact 2 195 tyres, vs. my Michellin Excellence), which I have now decided must be something to do with the tyres, because I don't think Skoda would let the Yeti to be noisier than the Roomster.

I am most impressed by the engine, it is the lower output version of the 1.2 TSI, but it is definitely more linear and much smoother, it has less go after 2000 rom, but it definitely feels more refined. Overall, very impressive car!

Strange, I find on the Fabia the 86PS TSi a bit of an effort to drive at least in comparision to the 105PS TSi engine which feels like it is producing a lot more than 105PS. I think the extra cost on the Fabia/Roomster for the 105 engine is really worth it.

My wife has a Fabia TSI 85; very impressed by it's performance particularly hill climbs, leaves the normally aspirated stuff for dead :D and as you suggest very linear power delivery.

You have to de-worm the Yeti - well I suppose it is an animal! :giggle:

Being as t'other half owns a pet shop, do you think we should get some anti-worming powder in ready for the rush?

Mine definitely need to be dewormed, it loves the bugs, and when he eats, he gets very messy, face full of the stuff!

I jumped back to my Yeti just now, it definitely has more grunt, but the turbo lag on the 85 is definitely less!

I had a Roomster 85tsi and also a fabia 65tsi as courtesy cars. I absolutely hated the Roomster compared to the Yeti. I did not feel at all at home in it.

The Fabia felt much more normal. I did feel that the engines were very smooth and quiet, but no power at all. I guess Elsie the Helipad has about 100bhp more...........

I'll have one of those tomorrow as I'm having a towbar fitted.

I assume you mean the 3 cylinder 1.2?

I have absolutely no idea. The engine was smooth and I was told they were both 1.2 TSI's of 85bhp, just detuned versions of what was in the Yeti.

I have had the Fabia 3 cylinders in many occasions, and have started from hating the thing to actually liking their torque characteristics.
