ECU out Remap CR170 Skoda's take on it

Featured Replies

I called SUK and asked them the hypothetical if I get my new CR170 remapped involving removing ECU opening it etc etc and put back in with new settings for my remap what this will do to my warranty. I got the usual if any part is deemed to have been damaged because of the modification ....... Which is fair enough and we all know. I asked more specifically if the ECU itself would be void under warranty for having been removed and then opened seal broken etc then put back together?

I was told that this would not void it unless it was damaged by whoever does it then back to the if any modification has caused damage line. But I confirmed that by removing opening and then closing reinstalling the ECU they will not sting me for it if it goes wrong in a year or 2 as I cannot see how they could justify that a remap could cause excess wear or be more aggressive to the ECU itself!

I asked if I could be directed to or furnished with something in writing to confirm this and it has been added to my vehicle record the answer I was given from my exact question so in the future if something goes wrong I can have a damn good argument about it if warranty is refused on it!

The remap is on! B) I may have shot myself in the foot alerting them to my fiendish plans but I am not looking to cheat the system just want to know what risks im taking with future FUBAR's wallet

so you literally told them your getting it mapped lol, just better hope your turbo or anything engine wise doesnt go capput

They spoke to you so thtats a good start, as for turbo gearbox wear plus others, how could they prove it was down to a chip that caused them to fail. look at the stress a car goes under when towing a caravan up and down the country.

they only need an excuse to throw out a warrenty claim,

Yea tbh im not getting an aggressive map only a basic stage 1 to give a better power curve if I did destroy anything and it was genuinely the remaps fault (which shouldnt happen really) I would have no drama with a warranty claim being rejected in the same light that id tell my insurance about it too just to keep things right!

Exactly but thats where the arguments can start :D Skoda dont seem to be too bad with warranty stuff though compared to some others out there

It will be on your records now so if the car goes in it will be flagged up. It would be down to you to prove the remap did'nt cause something like a turbo or whatever should it go wrong.

Skoda point blank turns down a warranty claim because of a note on a computer and I will see them in court no crying on the phone begging them, however I have had no problems with warranty work before with a Cat D write off that was remapped again all declared to see if it was ok for warranty work and they bent over backwards to help me SUK and main dealers. I said above that I mainly was asking about if opening the ECU would void the warranty on it instantly for being taken apart? Skoda says no! I cannot hide a remap no matter how its put on the car so turbo injectors etc etc I am not too worried about if a car gives me problems I just buy another as I loose trust in it. In 10 years of car ownership this is my 22nd car and ive never crashed or broken any :D My Fabia I had over 2 years and a 406 before that for 2 years was a period of car buying mania before :giggle:
