Sticking Throttle

Featured Replies

I have noticed that my 2010 vRS CR has a tendency to keep accelerating when I lift off of the accelerator at town driving speeds. It feels very much the same effect as cruise control would have but obviously this is not active at the time this happens.

It doesn't really gain speed but maintains the speed I am driving at when I raise the accelerator.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Can you not just book it into the dealers?

Yeah it is booked in but I was curious to learn if others had experienced the same thing.

Not sure what you are telling us. If the engine is at idle and you are in first or second gear foot off, then the car will attempt to maintain the idle speed and maybe thus accelerate. But that is really an anti stall measure. Or are you talking higher speeds and revs?

Higher speeds, this morning while at 30mph in 4th when I lifted off of the accelerator the car didn't make any attempt to slow and maintained speed while travelling uphill. It's happened several times and mimics how the car would act if cruise control was active.

My dad noticed the same thing when he took the car out for a drive.

Good luck getting it fixed. Let us know how you get on.

Would not drive the car if it behaved like that. How do you stop?:wonder:

Errrr, depress the clutch and brake pedal ?

But, getting back to the topic in hand. I had a similar problem on an 18mth old petrol. Dealer cleaned out the throttle control body and replaced the accelerator pedal. Two years on and the problem hasn't come back ! I have seen a couple of posts on here before with the same problem and the fix is usually 1 or both of the above.

Pressing the brake pedal is enough to make the revs drop and the car acts as normal then.
