New Superb thoughts!

Featured Replies

Picked up my new 140 CR 4X4 DSG today.

First impression > Outside Superb > Inside > a little less than Superb.

Main disappointment the quality of plastic dash and thread bare carpeting. I went for the ivory options for both and perhaps that shows up the non superb quality a little more than I could remember from the day long testdrive.

The leather seats better than I was expecting a little nice than my Octavia's

But when you get to the other matters that are perhaps more important the drive from the dealership West London, to Kent was jsut perfect. How quiet is this car sorry my Octavia now sounds loud even when warmed up. The ride was good, brakes very sharp! and I was cruising at 70 very nicely.

I still hope I get to grow to love the car , but sadly it was not love at first or should I say second sight. Perhaps she needs riding in a little LOL

Ah I meant to add guess what the dealers only GAVE ME a skoda umbrella which fits very nicely :+)

I got the brolly too, mine was in the compartment when I got the car. I can understand your comments re carpets, but surprised about the dash. My last car was BMW 320d and I honestly don't think the materials used on the superb's dash are any worse than those found in the 320d.

Hope you do come to love your car, I'm really pleased with mine, wouldn't go back to the BMW under any circumstances.

The umbrella is now again std on the SE and Elegance models (as of 4/1/2011)

Ok coming back on the plastics . Have to say the black top of the dashboard is good enough and feels ok, but the ivory bottom half and door sides just looks cheap.

As for my comparison the best I have seen and felt was in the XF which I hired for 3 days as my test drive the interior is serious quality, way better than the E CLass that I was also considering which was pretty much on par with the Superb (black colour).

Today also played with my flappy paddles a bit. I never bothered with the manual mode on the Octavia DSG but I can see myself using the paddles a bit more. I wonder if I can get some higher MPG using them

Had my 140 DSG 4X4 for a couple of weeks. Chipped my windscreen with 35 miles on the clock. Have to say did not notice at the time yes I heard the stone hit the window, but was my wife who saw it the next day sitting in her seat. Fixed by Autoglas next morning under the skoda 7 day complimentary insurance. Have a visible scar but only just.

Love the car - it is so quiet compared to my old 1.9tdi octavia estate, which I have just sold on autotrader.

Mocha colour growing on me. Outside appearance great and love the chrome twin exhaust so much better than the turned down rusting octavia

Wheels and tyres look the part the car oozes classs.

Have made use of the twin door to pack holiday suitcases and nice large size

Ivory interior not so but my fault with choosing the ivory carpets they look grubby already and in any event I have black skoda carpet mats on top.

I wished Skoda made some real quality mats as well - probably the worst point.

My bolero system developed the "system starting up" problem. Lasted overnight but went (so far) the next day.

Played DVD picture nice and sound great

Loaded up the HDD from the SD card worked ok but need to work on the folder pathing.

Yesterday even tried bluetoothing my HD desire phones GTunes library - worked and 6 year old daughter loved this as she got to control the music from her seat in the back.

Rest of bluetooth of Htc desire with car good enough I have the phone book and voice recognition calling

Nice to have rhe 12v DC point in the rear consul as can charge phone at same time as playing and still use front point for tomtom. Cant decide if I will risk not using my tomtom with HD live feed as not so happy anout TMC feed but like the option to have TMC messages linked with journey or in total.

Voice control reasonably responsive daughter liked doing the naming but not sure if it will work with my voice when needed.

As for drive as good as I want 140 enough power compared to ageing 105 octavia. NO idea if the 4.x.4 has moved off the standard 96% to front setting at any time yet.

Seats comfortable enough and I am sure will get better when I get a few more miles into them.

Fuel consumption averaging 45mpg per multi dot and happy with that as I expect this to improve over the first few thousand miles. Even got above 60 mpg on a return trip from the office best I did in my octavia on the same journey was about 55 mpg. I assume the multidots roughly the same.

My driver's seat is wearing badly after only six months. My dealer in Leeds says it is down to wear and tear and will not include a warranty claim.

The seat side cushion nearest the door is less supportive and the seat back cushion nearest the door is wearing badly.

I have taken it up with Skoda UK and await their reply.

My leather seats in my Audi show less wear after nine years than my Superb.

I just think the leather (or is it partial leather) is not up to the job.

MY Superb has developed its first fault (other than the ad hoc system starting on the Media System issue that is well known!!!)

The issue is that if I NOW go downhill with foot off accelerator the engine / DSG gearbox automatically downshifts to a lower gear so that the engine end up racing. It does not matter how steep or unsteep the hill. Usually I end up overriding the downshift by using the paddles do that the car moves from D3 to just 3 and then 4 etc.

This morning was the worst occassion so far left the M25 per normal at J9 a short downhill slip road leading to a rounadabout. Get to the bottom of the slip road and engine had up****ed to 2nd (or poss 3rd) gear and engine doing at least 3'000 revs from recollection pointer was at about 1 o'clock (soory not with car now and cannot recall exactly where the rev numbers are.

Has anyone expereinced the same - odd that this is getting worse. Simon

I think the dash is good quality plastic, not shiny and hard.

RE the seat wear, I read a similar story in the Yeti forum. They went to Skoda UK, and the seats were replaced at 7000 miles for what looked like less wear than on my 2000 mile car

Does skoda use the same materials in the s-se and elegance all the materials are soft touch in my elegance and better than my last car a 4 year old 320cdi Mercedes now that was a wast off money
