Why is it whenever I fix PC's (invariably always old crap ones) is it that the bloody CD-ROM drive is ALWAYS the one thing to cause me grief? Trying to install MS Office on a machine I've just rebuilt, and it wont read the CD even though it reads perfectly in my machine. Bloody cyclic redundancy b*****d check! :mad: I've done loads of PC's for people and yet its always the simple matter of installing something that ALWAYS seems to cause problems and take time.

Rant over!

Clean the lens?

Its on its way now I think....

The CD i used originally was totally perfect, no scratches or anything. So out of daftness I try and write it on a old CD-RW (scratched to hell) and guess what? It worked... until windows then told me it couldnt access the Windows Installer... so I've just had to mess about in the registry and re-register the msiexec file... its taken me an hour and a half so far, and its not even done yet. Grrrrr!!!!

I'll have this to look forward to tomorrow - I'm expecting my new bits for the PC (mobo,cpu,psu & graphics) But I've made sure of got nothing else planned and I've got plenty of room

and plenty of ;

a) Chocolate to help whilst I'm doing it

B) Whisky to help once I've thrown it through the window :eek:

I've often found this with older office PCs - I reckon if the CD drive's hardly been used it doesn't like it. Dust in the optical bits I presume.

Oh great... I've just typed a post out on here, and guess what? Lost it yet again :rolleyes:

Bloody computers, sick to death of them at the moment quite frankly. Took longer to install Office on that machine than it did to install Windows. Glad to see the back of it!!!!

Also I use my PC as a hifi source, so last night to help me sleep I put my headphones on and lied in bed. When I was finished, I tried to use my optical wireless mouse to shut the machine down... and guess what... it just wouldnt shut down, just kept ignoring me :mad: By this time I was no longer relaxed and so it took another half an hour to get to sleep, which has now resulted in me sleeping in and being late for work :rolleyes:
