What colour for alloy wheels on Silver Scout

Featured Replies

I'm getting a set of alloys refurbed ready for my winter tyres. Once they are on I'll be getting the proteus alloys refurbed but to a plain finish rather than the original polished look that suffers if you give it a hard stare.

Plain silver is the obvious choice but I'm also thinking a light grey may look good.

I've not done this sort of thing before so am looking for opinions & hopefully pics!

What colour to go for?

The dark grey bumpers already stand out quite a bit on light coloured Scout's such as yours.

I'd be tempted to stick with plain silver for some contrast.

Have you seen the latest optional Proteus alloy's with the grey centres. They look very smart and would I'm sure suit a silver Scout. I wonder if your refurber could replicate the effect?

Gunmetal.

:)

I really like the polished Proteus above. But as Rob says, gunmetal will look great.

IIRC, dainott on here is in the process of fitting newly painted wheels to a silver VRS estate-might be worth a pm for photos?

Have a look at a lot of the Silver Merc & Audis for ideas, I think a shade of silver is the answer, if you head towards grey the wheels may look to dark for the car. Its very personal but you dont want anything too loud or personal as it will hinder resale

I think the plain silver will be the safe option but I'm keeping my eyes open for other combo's. I'm prepared to take a bit of a gamble with the winter wheels although nothing too dramatic - maybe a darker shade.

I knew the Proteus finish was fragile but was surprised when I lost traction reversing through some deep mud on the FOS wheel & ended up with bad circular scratches on the polished finish.

It is the polished finish that suffers. As soon as you chip the lacquer, moisture gets underneath & corrodes the alloy. After 4 years & 71k my wheels are starting to look a bit rough too, but I don't know if a plain non-polished finish will look all that good.

I had a Renault Scenic RX4 with same colour scheme - silver & black body mouldings, & matt silver alloys looked fine. I think the Proteus wheels would be better suited to the Superb or higher-end Octavias (they still need to be more robust). I'm not bothered either way about the polished look & wouldn't spec it if it was only an option rather than standard - even if the finish didn't have issues.

The front wheels were 50% covered in corrosion at 38K/45 months & the dealer put on new fronts when I bought it less than 3 months ago. They look crap already with scratches & scuffs & haven't hit a curb yet.

I got the proteus alloys - the ones with the grey centre - they look great on my Storm Blue Scout
