Car creaking when going over bumps or inclines?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Little problem which has been annoying me for a while...

Whenever I am say going up and down any slight incline or if the car seems to be flexing in any way, I get what sounds like the car is creaking in the middle of the roof.

Imagine say, like rubbing polystyrene together. That sort of creak.

I can't tell where it is coming from though, the doors, the subframe, the body, the seals, etc. Can't figure it out!

Maybe it is from heat expansion as well, I did buy the car in winter last year.

Any ideas anybody?

Anyone else experiencing it?

Cheers all.

Stu.

Hi Stu,

Have a quick look on the Roomster forum, Page 2, Title: "Driver's and passenger's window rattles".

There are some similarities to the noise you are describing.

Have a gander at this from the Yeti forum....http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/166737-good-advice-for-reducing-creaking-noise/page__p__2034595__hl__door+seal+creaking__fromsearch__1#entry2034595

Fabias are well known to creak, especially at the rear when some one sits or gets out of rear seats the suspension creaks, apparentley they all tend to do it , and yes bothmine creak at the rear don't no if drums are the problem, sounds like a dry creak

Haven't noticed this one myself...yet!

Think I figured this out.

If I wind the front windows down a tad, it seems to disappear.

Hmmm. Any ideas?

Thanks for the replies everybody.

Yep, I noticed this one too.

Creaks whenever there is somebody in the left rear passenger seat.

Had a similar problem with a BMW a few years ago with the seal between the top of the door and the window. I used to drop the window down into the door and put some silicon spay along the seal. I had to do it quite frequently at first but it did sort it out in the end. In the end I was only spraying it twice a year.

Will give that a blast, think I have some silicone spray knocking about somewhere. Cheers.

Failing that, I will try the door seals, they seem a prominent problem apparently.

I just used some silicon based dashboard cleaner

Okay so it is partially down to the windows.

With them all wound down, the noise is still slightly there.

I am now thinking this is a combination between the window and door seals.

Thought I'd point out that the manual states that when treating door seals you should use a rubber care product with silicone- free oil.

May be best not to use silicon then but it did work om the BMW. Any thing that could act a a lubricate between the glass on seal should help.

Both mine too.

Even more noticeable with the stereo turned up.

+1. Especially when driving over rough surfaces. Can be quite annoying!

Doh, Thats bad news Stu, dont let it get you down though!

I noticed a rattle on mine, but it turned out to be the tax disc holder I attached, and sometimes the USB stick if I havnt pushed it back far enough. :S

I seem to have been lucky as I dont have any rattles at the moment Even with the stereo up loud... (Sorry)

If you hear a "clunking" or "knocking" sounds from around the top of the rear seats with people sitting in them, I found wrapping some tape around the hook that the rear seat backs latch onto stops this.
