Bolero - Obtaining Radio Code

Featured Replies

Hi,

I bought a Bolero from a user on here but he doesn't have the radio code. How do I get it? It came out of his 59 plate Octavia. Can he get it from his car, or can I get it from Skoda? What's the easiest way of getting the code?

Many thanks,

Dan

I had to take mine to the dealers where they connect to computer and get the code from Skoda. No other way i'm afraid.

Just take the stereo there? They don't need the original car? Is there a charge for this?

He should have got the code for you before selling it. Would have been way easier.

Depends on the dealer TBH. The codes are available with just the serial number of the Bolero unit, but most dealers will probably insist on seeing the unit in the car, and evidence of ownership. Again, dealer dependant, there might be the sticky issue of the fact that it won't be the original unit the car was fitted with, so they might be asking for proof of ownership for the Bolero unit itself as well.

I had the same thing. I was able to get the code from a Skoda dealer although they will probably give you a bit of quizzing as to where it came from. If the seller is happy to give you details of his car, chassis number etc. it might help. I had a dealer invoice for the removal of the stereo from it's original car so they were okay with that but did take a copy of it to show I had "Been challenged as to the source of the equipment" as they put it.

They charged £30 for it. The stereo didn't need to be fitted in the car or switched on or anything, all they took was the serial number from it's label and put it through their computer system. It might be worth having it plugged in though even if it's not all properly fitted when you go as the first number they gave me was wrong. At least you can try it there in person.

In the end the right code came from using the full serial number which was under the bar code on the sticker, it had an extra letter on the end that the one etched on the side and on another part of the label didn't.

Thanks a lot for all your help.

Rather annoyed it might cost £30 though! I'll contact my local dealer and see what info they need then.

Thanks again.

I don't know if they are all the same. They just said it's their policy to charge 0.4 of an hour I think it was for codes. I'm sure I'd seen mentions of £15 in other posts. It doesn't sound like there is much to it, when they tried to get the second number for me the guy was away for literally two minutes and came back with the number. I wonder if the seller would be prepared to give his dealer a phone, they might be inclined to give him the code if they sold him the car, they'd maybe want to see the car though.

Just seen the thread where you bought the Bolero. I'd have made the code a condition of sale :)

Just that some dealers are more helpful than others. That's what it comes down to really....

I thought it just came on a card with the handbook, like my last car did.

Nope. Unfortunately not. Been covered quite a bit in the Bolero/Columbus threads.

Sorry to be giving you this info after the event....

They stopped supplying code cards with cars sometime ago. Supposedly for security reasons, and the fact that the unit is already paired with the car, so in theory you'd never need the code itself. Unless you sell the unit on of course :)

Okey dokey. Thanks for your help. I just spoke to the girl I know who works on the service desk at my local Skoda garage and she said she'll get the code sorted so that's good! Also got a bargain price of £49.99 on an air con service with filters and antibacterial clean as they have a special offer on!

Looking forward to the weekend now. I'll have the auto lights fitted, Bolero fitted and air conditioning that works! Just in time for my trip down to Devon. :)

Good result emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Need to get my AC serviced as well - that's reminded me :)
