Rear Speaker Upgrade ?

Featured Replies

Ok. I get bored in work sometimes and end up buying stuff off the internet especially when i have seen stuff mentioned on this forum (and its costing me a fortune you buggers :o ).

Anyway, i went and bought the speaker upgrade, you know, the Blaupunkt ones that are selling cheap on eBay and i also bought some Skoda speaker adapters that i was advised i also needed because i wanted the speakers to be as "plug and play" as possible (cabling, electrics etc. just ain't my thing).

The new speakers duly arrived and i thought, great, time to install them. This is where i am now quite confused about the connections and the number of them (did i say cabling really isn't my thing). When i pulled the boot carpet back i see the original speakers have 2 sets of cables, with plastic connectors, attached and i cant work out why a speaker would need both. The 2 plastic connectors don't really fit into the adapters i bought and whichever way i connect them the speaker does not work. Am i being a divvy or am i doing something completely wrong to get the upgrade speakers to work??

These are the speakers i bought off eBay Link 1 and these are the adapters Link 2

Any help.....anyone.....PLEASE !!!

There are two sets of connectors....one set from the head unit to the speaker (main) the other from this to the tweeter in the door! I fiited Pioneer rear speakers (which also had built in tweeters) and also connected the OEM tweeters in the rear door (so have 6 tweeters) as this provides a better sound stage. See my post B)

Hi there,

Before I go fitting my speakers, did the speaker connector/adaptor you bought, did that do the trick? Was it just plug and play?

I didn't use connectors.......I like soldering etc....... :giggle:

If you want to use the OEM tweeters as well then make sure that the the two + wires in the Skoda loom are joined together and the two - wires are joined together....we then want a wire from each of these two joints to the respective + or - on the main speaker...use the wire colours in my previous link to id the cables. All the + should join together and all the - together....but no + to - !!! B)

thanks for that fabdavrav.

What i have done is remove the double connectors from the original speakers and i am just going to solder a couple of wires (that were in the box with the new speakers) onto these to be able to connect them up to the +- on the new speakers. I am ditching the extra adapters that i bought. Hopefully that will work and that will be the end of it  If not then i am slightly stuffed because i have dropped and damaged one of the originals DOH!

On a side note i didnt realise i would have to take the seatbelt mechanism off to get to the last screw holding the speaker in place. No biggy but i couldnt see any other way of getting to it.

Managed it without undoing the seatbelt mech....mind you I have slim hands!!!

Also heatshrink/tape over the soldered joins!! B)
