VW reverse camera

Featured Replies

Have any Skoda owners fitted a VW camera to their car and attached to a Columbus?

There's a couple of threads on the mk5golfgti forum which describe fitting the camera from a Scirocco (non pop put handle) an it seems relatively straightforward and surprisingly cheap.

Anyone done it in an Octavia or Superb even?

...jeps

I've been looking at this but I was under the impression it would require the purchase of a "box of tricks" to be used between the wiring loom and the Columbus unit. Did the GTi boys make reference to anything like that?

It appears to be the camera, wiring loom and then a holder and a bracket. Then some simple coding.

The whole thing is around ยฃ230.

However...upon looking aty boot kid last night, I dont know where it would go. The boot release handle is I'm the centre under the ledge, then there's only an inch either side before the 2 number plate lights.

Often the camera is built in to a replacement numberplate light, so it could be a case of just swapping one for the other.

Do you have a link?

Was it ever an option on the new Octavias?

This is a RVC from Golf Plus (5M0827566) in my Octavia. To fit it I had to enlarge the opening for door handle.

Did you extend the handle hole and move it over?

Is the golf plus camera built into the same type of handle as the Octavia?

I think this could be the critical bit (from the scirocco forum)... "NOTE: It should work with the RCD510 or RNS510 touch screen units but you should check first that it has RVC on the label on the unit indicating that it takes video compatible input."

Question is, do our Columbus units have this RVC on the label... would have to remove the unit to find out, but I'm guessing not, VW would probably reserve them for cars where RVC's are an option.

Whose going to pop their unit out for a look...?

Golf+ camera is integrated into the door handle and it replaces the original handle.

I can't recall the exact dimensions but yes, I had to extend the hole by few cm.

Look at this thread for more information - http://vwnavi.com/showthread.php/10771-Rear-View-Camera-On-Octavia-II-with-Colombus

And regarding the video input for RVC - all Columbus/RNS-510 have it, so it is not a problem.

Do you know the part number of that camera?

As 5M1970161AC seems to be cable that connects the camera to the Columbus.

Looking at fitting this into my car when it arrives next week.

Sorry, indeed 5M1970161AC is a cable :)

Part number for camera was 5M0827566.

Thanks!

It was just "5M0 827 566" for the part number? No suffix letter?

As for the connections you had to make, was it just 3?

1. +12v ignition

2. Earth

3. +12v reverse signal?

Yes, "5M0 827 566" without any suffix letters.

Regarding the connections - yes, 3 connection but, according to ELSA, +12v must be connected to permanent +, not ignition.

Excellent, thanks Josi. I'll order the parts and get this installed.
