Where to get suspension nuts and bolts

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Bought a comprehensive rear shock kit from Jorily. Opened it up today to get car done, no bump stops or more importantly no bolts and nyloc nuts as per picture and description on his website. I ordered the bloody full kit because I'm probably going to have to grind the bottom nut and bolt off. I know I should have checked when I received it but thought, as it was Jorily, it would be spot on.

Can I get by without new bump stops?

Where can I get the nuts and bolts, I understand they've got to be high tensile?

To be honest I've just emailed Jorily and haven't given him chance to reply, but he didn't reply to my emails about the lateness of delivery of this item anyway. I know he's under pressure but I'm just ****ed of it's a bank holiday and I don't know where to get the bloody bolts from. I know I should have check but oh billix.

Oh and the radiator is now leaking!

My comprehensive kit from Jorily had all the nuts and bolts and bumpstops included. Screwfix/toolstation do high tensile nuts/bolts of the correct size. Might have to buy a bag of 10 or so though. Whilst you are at toolstation, buy some of their penetrating oil (a german brand with 'rost-loser' on it), much better than wd40. Re-using the old bumpstops is probably ok, but not ideal, especially if you should have these included in the kit.

Thanks jonny a. I was sent a pair of monroe's! I'm thinking that I should order the bolts from Jorily's as they sell the pack for about a fiver. I really would like to support the guy, but I ordered these for the last bank holiday and they took a couple of weeks to get here so I missed it. It's rained ever since and today was ideal. Off side looks totally rusted so I banked on using my grinder, even if I could get it off I would still rather put new nuts and bolts on.

You don't need HT bolts for the bottom bolts on them. Just get some from a local fasteners place, they will be fine. Grease them before fitting to avoid problems in the future. I wouldn't expect Jorily's kit to include the bottom bolts, but I would expect it to include bump stops if it really is "complete".

the bottom pinch bolt is about £2 someting from the skoda dealer

Was going to Skoda tomorrow but just received a email from Graham. He's been laid up with a bad back but will despatch missing parts asap.

Received bump stops but still no nuts and bolts! My local dealer is getting them in on Wednesday. Not bothering Jorily again.

Ps nuts and bolts clearly in the advertisement.

in reference to the nuts and bolts, the one that holds the suspension damper base has a non-standard thread so don't just wind any old B&Q nut on there

Cheers Tom I'm getting them from the local Skoda dealer. I wanted the proper ones so that's why I went for Jorily's kit!

Your nut's and bolts are already on their way to you!!

^^ sounds like it's sorted then...

i should have elaborated further on the bolts.. they are M10x1.25 for the damper base, whereas the standard thread for an M10 bolt is 10x1.5mm.... it pays to be quite cautious with the subframe mounting bolts and track control arms bolts etc because most of them are oddball non-standard thread pitches. from memory the only 'standard' one is the bottom balljoint but uses a special fitted bolt anyway.

Do you mean the bottom shock bolts on the rear end, Tom?

no mate, the rear ones are yet again totally odd... they are M10x1.... i've just re-read the op and realised it's the rear kit he's on about, i just made a wild assumption that it was the front ones :giggle:

The rear ones are M10 x 1.25 x 70mm

i'll get my coat :D you are indeed quite right.... just looked it up on etka. i know for definite there's something at the back end which is 10x1, the top nut on the damper is (i'm 100% certain on that)

i'm going to stop carping on about nuts and bolts now and break open a 1664... good year for beer that was apparantly

i don't like 1664 it gives me headache even after 1. I drink Westons 2010 Vintage Cider 8.2 %

haha :giggle:

my mrs would drink brake fluid if she though it has alcohol in it :wonder:

Yeah, the tops are M10x1 (common thread on dampers, I think), but the bottoms don't need to be M10x1.25; I've changed all the ones on all my rally cars for 10x1.5 and they've been fine, plus they've been about 50p from a local bolt supplier. I think they've probably seen more abuse than most road car ones will see too!
