Quick advice - which way up for console bushes

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just taken my car in this morning to a well respected VAG specialist to have supra tdi bushes fitted

The thing we need to know is which way up they go. I understand the flush side goes to the back, but the fitting guide doesn't specify which way up the bushes go as long as the flat bits are top and bottom. Is that right?

The proper Å koda 4 pin bushes have an alignment mark which goes on the inside.

Thanks

Andrew

Anyone? Should add the new bushes have a white 'chalk' mark on one side. Is this an alignment mark?

I'm gonna need this info soon too! Mine came with chalk marks, is that "top"? And flat side pointing towards the front of the car?

Also naxtek, can you report back how the car feels with these in? I have heard varying opinions...

Have a look here

Hi,

And he doesn't know which way they go in???? How respected is he?????

Right then.....all the OEM bushes go in with a "flat side" at the top and at the bottom so that the arm when fitted is horizontal.

The hex hole is also offset to one side...from notes that i found from a previous thread on here this hex hole should be closer to the engine side of the console.

Also when you look at the bush one side is sunk in the other is flush.....the flush side should be the face for the back of the console unit and must be flush with the back edge of the console unit. B)

The hex hole is centred on the Ibiza Cupra bushes and all the sides of the hexagon are equal length. Does that mean there is no correct top and bottom?

Funny that...the "X" oem bush is offset...hhhmmmm.....looks like so long as you have a flat side at the top you should be ok...mind you I fitted Powerflex as these and SuperPro versions work in a better way than the cupra bush...but are more expensive!!

Just to clear up - the garage I use has a very good reputation. He had an OEM one there - they have alignment marks on and we were comparing the two. I don't think he had ever fitted the cupra versions, that's all - and rather than putting them in the wrong way, taking my money and running, he thought it was better to check first as there were no obvious alignment marks :)

Just picked the car up. Was only 10 mins drive in cross-town traffic, but stuck it into a few bends and it seems a lot better.

On the original bushes, the car would 'squirm' a lot when the weight of the car would transfer, most noticeable under extreme accelleration/braking/cornering. To be honest it was quite scary to drive, and gave no confidence at all. I always thought it was the console bushes and now I've finally got round to having them done, first impressions would say I was right... I'll report back more after a decent drive home.

I can't wait to get a rear ARB and some springs now to improve things a bit more!

Well, my nearside bush is split and has been for a while, but only recently have I really noticed some really vague steering and weird squirming on the bumps. The tyre is also starting to wear unevenly so this is a priority job next payday! Have heard that the Cupra bushes make the car noisier and crashier but will fit them anyway as I'd rather have a tighter front end.

Any update Naxtek? Are the Cupra bushes an improvement?

Of course there an improvement! If you want even more feel get the powerflex ones

Got them on my lupo gti and totally transformed the handling, like a wee go-kart now

Yep, a thousand times better. Everything just feels loads sharper. Got an ARB going on next week, so should be even better then.

Although I must say it's transmitting more of the vibration from my on-the-way-out flywheel into the cabin :(
