Octavia Mk1 Aftermarket Stereo Fit

Featured Replies

Help,

Just got a Mk 1 TDI Octavia; T '99 year, (very impressed with economy and performance).

I have tried to fit an aftermarket pretty standard radio/cd player (original was tape only) but things haven't gone to plan!

The two connectors on the cars wiring harness were physically compatible with the aftermarket stereo ISO connector block but that's where the simple things ended.

After connecting the stereo it would not keep it's station memory, every time the ignition was switched off the stereo would loose it's memory. Guess this was because no permanent live was in the right place.

I had heard of this problem on early Vauxhalls so on the aftermarket radio ISO wiring loom I connected the perm and switched lives together. This sorted the stereo memory loss problem but I now noticed that the little flashing red light next to the drivers door locking pin that shows the car is alarmed when locked no longer works.

If I disconnect the stereo the red alarm indicator works again.

Can anyone tell me what is going on and what the correct wiring should be for this model of car to have both a battery backed memory for the stereo and a working alarm!

Many thanks.....

Usually when these issues pop up it is a case of swapping the yellow and red wires over, many cars have different ignition colours and +12V. Curious about the door alarm indicator. Does it appear in either configuration?

Thanks for the reply,

No- the problem only occurs when I wire the iso loom so that the stereo keeps it's memory
