how robust are the fibre liners(inner skins) as I would have thought the constant grit blasting dry and wet would have been detrimental to the fabric

These type of noise reducing liners have been around a long time. Not seen any degradation myself on any of the cars I've owned that had them fitted.

ok , always had plastic jobs fitted - 2x mk2 Golfs and 2x Cit Berlingo Multi which were excellent, have no idea re fibre liners

I had the fibre jobs on the Octy - 120,000 km and 4 years and no sign of any deterioration.

50,000 km on the Yeti and also no sign of any problems.
