In addition to the cambelt @ 60k...

... Whats the deal with tensioning rollers? Is there one of them or two? Gotta make sure I get this right as the change isn't being done by a main dealer. ;) I have a new fuel filter ready, and shall do the oil change shortly after the rest. Air filter can be ignored, oil filter obviously when I do the oil change. What have I missed? Pollen filter I might do some other time as I'm lucky not to suffer from hay fever too bad (is it bad to leave one in too long? - better to remove entirely?) Ahem, then I guess its just a case of checking components like brakes and fluid levels.

Advise you replace the belt and the main tensioner roller.

Pollen filter yes change it, it needs it to seal the box so you cant remove it but filters that become blocked seriously hamper air into the car.

Roller is deffo being changed, I just couldn't remember how many there were. :o

Thanks about the pollen filter... I might see about removing it, but I honestly don't know where it is. I have once had to remove the glovebox and take the cover off the fan unit, to retrieve a leaf out the whirly thingamajig, as it was "clack clack clack" ing... Is the pollen filter anywhere in there? For some reason I thought it was more in the middle of the dash. Might be time for me to look at "that CD software no-one is supoosed to have" ;)

The pollen filter sits to the right of the blower motor.

If you look up under the glovebox there is a rectangular panel with two sliders on it. These slide into the middle and the cover pulls down. Then half a tonne of leaves fall onto your head and floor and the pollen filter slides out in a cartridge. Swap over the filter noting which way it came out, has direction of air flow printed on the side, and slide it back up and in.

Yeah no panels need to be removed to do the pollen filter.

I don't know how similar your tdi engine is to my 1.4 16v engine but I'm sure there are two or three rollers? . . . it might be worthwhile re-newing the water pump at the same time too?

There are two belts on the 1.4 16V, quite different.

Renewing the water pump is a good idea but tbh they dont tend to go wrong on the TDi's.
