Door deadlocking

Featured Replies

The mrs tried opening the passenger door on my car today and it's jammed shut. The central locking still makes the pin go up and down but nothing happens. It is also making the rear doors only open from the outside and can't be done from the inside! Any ideas?

What happens to the rear doors when you press the lock button twice? Child locks off?

It's been coded differently on vagcom so that all doors open with one click. It's just come back from the bodyshop where the handles have been off for colour coding but worked fine yesterday. Could this be why?

Sounds like they have made the cables to tight then and there is not enough slack for the mech to release fully and they are now stuck in deadlock.

Is it an easy fix Ross? Would you be able to talk me trough it?

Sadly it's not an easy fix, normally once they have deadlocked it's normally a case of removing the door trim, taking off the ancillaries carrier and breaking the door catch open if they are jammed tight.

How much would a dealer charge me?

Going to be a good few hundred pounds if it's three doors, I'd take it back to the body shop.

It's just the passenger door that's deadlocked. Would that cause the rear 2 to not lock via central locking? One of the rear doors you can unlock from the outside but not inside!

Is the child lock not on then?

I didn't realise there was a childlock how would you switch it off and would that only cause 1 to do it

The child locks work on the rear doors and are switched on or off on each door. If you open the door and look just above the lock mech from the inside of the door you will see a small black circle with a key sized insert that you can insert the key into part way and turn. It'll make more sense when you look at!

My mate had a similar problem.......got the door open by using his fist and carefully hitting the door just below the handle (where the lock mech is) this "jolted" the lock open!! Mech was sticking due to lack of grease! B)
