Engine mgt and glow plug (I'm not sure that is the correct technical term but you know what I mean) warning lights have come on and car gone in to "get you home mode"

Just covered 13k from new (Sept 2010) so not expecting this (although previous bad experience with an A4 Avant should have prepared me for VAG reliability issues!).

Is this a common problem? ANy ideas?

Typically both your braking lights are burnt or you have a faulty brake pedal switch. Probadly the last ...

So .. check your braking lights ?

Took the car to the dealer - diagnosed as faulty EGR valve (at 13k - not impressed! - previous 2 CDTI Hondas required ZERO engine work in over 200k miles).

Even more bad news - part is out of stock at VAG and will not be available until the 20th June - dealer thinks there is a potential problem with EGRS.

Have a new Passat Estate as temp replacement - apart from having DSG not a patch on the Superb.

Ok, thats sad. Hope a new valve will sort it out for you.
