Laurin and Klement not getting past 40mph

Featured Replies

I have a 55 plate Skoda Octavia Laurin and Klement, just had a service recently and a couple of days ago it decided it wasn't going to go faster than 40-45mph. Anyone got any ideas of what it could be and how much it may cost. Bloody thing has cost us a fortune since we had it!!! Grrrrr

Maybe it was caused during the service so it will be down to the servicing garage - take it back to them. It could be that a vacuum pipe connected to the turbo has come adrift. Had this once on a Mazda 6 and it wouldn't pull your hat off, but OK when pipe reconnected.

Sounds like it is in 'limp home' mode because the ECU has detected a fault.

This is quite often caused by turbo issues - sticking vanes, pipes coming disconnected etc.

You need to get the fault codes read and reset so that normal service is resumed, and then try to diagnose the fault.

Apparently the turbo pipe was off, it was re-attached but the car is still not driving properly!!!! Our usual guy says we need to take it to a diesel specialist??? They have said that they think they have found the problem and it will cost £179 for part and then cost of labour, this car is on finance and we have only had it for 15months, where do we stand on this, we've had over £1500 of work done in 12months!!!! This is doing my head in x

What parts ? Is the car still on warranty? (I do not know what the 55th plates mean)

I am advising you to force this pals to fix the current issue , because this happened when the car was on service and then change the garage.

55 plate means the car was registered between September 2005 and February 2006 so out of the original warranty, why we can't have a simple year like Irish plates do I've no idea!

I don't know how likely it is the turbo pipe came off itself?

Get it to a VAG specialist (independent, not a main dealer), and get a second opinion. It will probably need the fault code resetting and then you can see what error (if any) it throws up now the pipe is reconnected. Should only cost you £20 or so for a diagnosis and the codes being reset.

If it is a L&K are you sure it is a 1.9 - I thought they were all 2.0 PD140 in the L&K?
