Parking Sensors and Cruise Control fixed.

Featured Replies

I've had the famous Superb parking sensor problem and decided to fit an aftermarket set from E-bay that cost £16. Much better than £100 per sensor from Skoda that will just go wrong anyway.

Took about 4 hours to fit, but most of that was the ballache of trying to get the boot carpet back in properly. Actually fitting the sensors was very easy but a word of warning to all:

When using the drill bit to cut a hole make sure you're concentrating. I wasn't and as a result have a nice scratch mark from a rogue drill all around two of my parking sensors!

Also managed to fix the lack of cruise control problem. I'd already tried cleaning out the contacts on the stalk with no luck but after hooking the car up to VAGCOM it seems my brake switch was slightly loose and that when I came off the brake the switch did not properly disengage and so the car thought I was always braking and so it would never activate the CC (pressing the brake/clutch turns off CC). The switch disengaged enough to turn the brake lights off but not enough to disengage completely and so the CC never came on.

To fix this problem:

1) Remove the lower dashboard above the pedals (4 torx screws).

2) Locate the brake switch (there are two switches above the clutch pedal. The brake switch is a cream coloured one and the clutch switch is black. Just to confuse matters, the brake switch and clutch switch are the opposite way round to where the brake and clutch pedals are.

3) Disconnect the wire from the brake switch.

4) Turn the switch clockwise until it's tight.

5) Reconnect the plug, put the dashboard back.

6) Enjoy your working cruise control!

I think from the design and layout this would be exactly the same procedure if there was a problem with the clutch switch as well. Took about 45 minutes in total, but the longest part was finding the fourth torx screw to remove the lower dashboard, it was tricky to see from the angle I was working.

Hopefully this will be useful info for someone someday, should have taken pictures though!

Have been thinking of doing the same thing to my parking sensors. Did you use the same holes in the bumper for the new sensors or did you cut new ones and blank off the old ones? Any tips on removing and refitting the carpets?

Thanks.

I am using Meta Targa SR2 parking sensors on my Classic Superb - the sensors are part of a number plate backing plate. Was very easy to fit and works really well.

I used Gadgetman sensors (£16 from E-bay). After removing the existing one I used the existing holes but had to use the special drill bit to widen them a bit as they were a few mm too big to fit in.

You should be fine with the carpets as long as you can access the rear light cluster and the parking sensor control box. I made life hard by removing too many bits of trim to get the carpet out. It made it easier to make space to work in but a lot harder to put back. The less you remove the better I'd say.

Thanks for that .... think I might have a go.
