When your DPF regenerates, what should you do?

Featured Replies

Dear all,

Today when I got home and swtiched off the ignition, and realized something is different, 1. the fan is still operating after engine is shut off; 2, a rubber burnt smell. I know that the DPF is probably regenerating. But, does anyone know, if this happens, do I need to drive more aggressively? like rev the engine whenever possible to facilitate the regeneration process? or I must readjust my driving style to rev the engine more to avoid the DPF regeneration from happening again or too often?

Cheers,

Rick.

Was the DPF light on in the instrument cluster ? If not it was not DPF regeneration.

That's happened to me twice. I had to turn off the ignition and than restart the car. I then shut off the ignition and it was fine. This was definitely not a question of an over heated car with the fans working extra to cool things down. I too, wonder what this was all about. Imagine if one walked away, upon returning the battery would certainly be dead

I also get this on my 1.9 Greenline, I've always assumed its the DPF doing its regeneration cycle. In addition, I seem to get the DPF light coming on regularly now which is resolved by approx 15mins driving at rpm in excess of 2000 - tricky around the country lanes! I am doing a fair amount of slow speed driving these days which is not ideal for the DPF equipped Superb.

Hi,

I don’t know whats in your car, but on my GreenLine 1.9 TDI PD it is noticeable when DPF start regenerating.

It is depend what type of MDF display you have

I have simple one So when DPF regeneration starts I will know same time

MDF Display start showing change gear to Lower if Rpm/s are lower that 2000

This is the 1 noticeable that DPF start regenerating

5-10 minutes of easy drive and done - MDF start showing if rpm more that 2000 change to higer gear

2 Engine Revs – Sound changes it is feel something working

3 If you keep same speed say second gear 2000 Rpm it is will be pulse working engine

Smell noticeable if it really hot day and I park my car before DPF regeneration not finished (Say in Year maybe 2 Times this happening when it is smells)

Anyway I don’t have in 32 000 Milles any warning lights about DPF regeneration problems at all “not a single one”

But all time when DPF start regenerating I will keep my car in to same speed same rev drive mode

Trying to keep between 2200 - 2500 rpm

My role is that do not drive hard when DPF in progress and no problems in future

One friend always have warning lights about DPF needs to clean

After 60- 70 000 miles engine valve blow Needs new engine 6000 Pounds repair cost

The problem was that something fails in DPF process
