boost leak or turbo noise normal

Featured Replies

i have a 2004 octavia vrs

when i brought it a month ago i couldnt hear the turbo but latley i can hear a whistle over 2000 revs

can the turbo normaly be heard even with the windows up or could this be a air leak somewhere

i have had it on a smoke machine but couldnt find anything apart from the intercooler was leaking air so they fitted a new one bit whistle seems louder since i got it back could a pipe they fitted have come lose

also when the boost builds up sometimes i hear the air coming out of the dv when taking foot of the pedal

cant remember hearing this when i first had it neither is this normal

might sound dumb questions but when brought it was fairly quiet

DV seal could have failed which is a very common fault. You can test it by removing the DV & pushing & holding the piston up, then put your finger over the small pipe on the top, the piston should stay up until you take your finger off the top. If it drops down while your finger is on the top the seal has gone.

However every VAG 1.8T car I've owned has whistled to some extent under boost.

Mine also whistles, i just presumed this was normal or because of the CAI i have fitted

Sounds completely normal, tbh, egsactly what i get, even before i was getting my lean EML light,

Myns louder cus ive got an Cold air intake on though lol :p

Might be a bit of a long shot but is the air box lid fitted correctly. When i had my 2nd RS, the turbo whistle was louder after a service, later i found the air box lid loose.
