question for people with over 200 bhp

Featured Replies

Really want to hybrid my vrs and get over 200 bhp but just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money. This is a question for people who have done it, was it worth it? Was it as good as you thought it would be? What's the negatives? Eg more lag etc?

Yeah was worth it, granted uv not spanked as much as some but still a heafty wedge. It's better than I thought & very happy. Think what else the money could do first then decide. Apart from the cost, no negatives

Lag is minimal with hybrid pd150. I definitely enjoyed when I tan 220bhp for a while, but as always gets samey and now I am even a little bored of 270bhp so looking for that kick to 3__ ...... :)

No regrets. Just want to keep pushing forward. I'd like to get 300bhp+ but dunno if that's worth the money. I think 250-260bhp with a LSD, decent tyres, decent coilovers and setup for handling will do me. :)

I'm happy to plod along at 165bhp

can only go upto 70mph anyway.... unless you live in Germany.

Sell me your steering wheel...

130bhp for me :)

Don't think I could justify the cost. To me I'd rather spend the money on a cheap mx-5 and enter sprints, hillclimbs, autosolo.

Closes I'll get is if my turbo fails. In which case I'd probably buy a 1749VB and get it mapped to 180-190bhp with limited torque to around 250-260.

It's not how fast you can go, it's the buzz of the acceleration getting there...

And there is always track days. :D

any of you done the work on a budget? like fitted alot of the stuff yourself?

Unfortunately, you've kind of done the easier stuff. A RARB would be a notable addition if you've not got one.

IMO 190-210 is a do-able, comfortable step from where you are now and is possible with a KKK hybrid or a PD150 turbo, intercooler and remap.

I would love to get over 200bhp, but the cost of a new turbo is a big pain (only cos I cant do it without the Mrs finding out). Part of me wishes mine will blow so I can say I need a new one and blag it. Your original question "is it worth it", well imo if I could afford it then hell yes!!

I'm not a kid, infact I should probably act my age, but I cant afford a fancy car. There are so mand n0bs out there in their Beemers, Audis, etc, I love it when they drive up my arse but cant get past, but I'd love it more if I left them standing.

In all seriousness though, like I said I cant afford what I would like, but to get what I call serious performance for a reasonable cost is well worth it imo.

If mpg wasnt and issue I'd go for a mkI Mazda 3 mps and de-badge it. Now thats a sleeper imo.

I have, but not by fitting, just doing a bit of bargain hunting. Coilovers I got for £200 used, but in good condition. 312's were £170 with discs & pads all nearly new. I bought the seat sport fmic quite early on, possibley one of the first on here, that was less than £250 at the time, plus I used a code for the pipes to get them for £220ish. I bought jase's old sachs clutch for £300 iirc & now have a jabba smf I found which I got for £150. The turbo I had to pay full way for tho. :( lol

So about £2300ish on parts that are essential for the power, plus your choice of mapping.
