skippy41,

breakaway has sent you this email from http://briskoda.net/forums/index.php.

I know that you are really good with advice for fellow skoda taxi drivers.

My problem is that my mark 1, 05 plate is throwing up some expensive problems. i'm at 188 thousand on the clock

Since January, I have had 180 service, flywheel and clutch, timing belt and radiator replaced.

On Sunday I broke down within 30mins of topping up diesel. Garage decided the problem was fuel contamination, which was confirmed by the diesel expert they sent my pump to. he actually asked if i had been running on biodiesel,( which i most certainly have not ) because he has never seen a pump with so much contamination.I asked what the contaminent was but they couln't tell me.

The garage say contamination is probably

in my fuel until I say that i bought the fuel in their forecourt. I don't have a receipt and i paid in cash.....

They kept my bill low £930 ???? by having a reconditioned pump fitted..any ideas on how to procceed

I'm in south lanarkshire and don't know where to go from here, by the way they fitted a dmf rather than a solid flywheel when i asked about that they say they didn't get notification from skoda until April to replace dmfs with solid flywheel. Really ****ed with all the hastle I am getting at the moment.

many thanks in advance

Jim Lochrie

I have suggested VOSA and the customs and excise and trading standards, is there anyone else folk can think of or anything else

Just wondering if the tank is painted inside and that has started to come away so would also flush the tank.

Do you lock your filler cap Jim as someone could have put something in the tank??

I would also demand that they fit the solid flywheel for free

Edited by skippy41

wouldnt the garage only fit a solid mass if you asked for it?

The car is 6 years old and done 188,000 miles, Clutch and timing belt are service items, why would they fit a solid flywheel when the car had dmf when it left the factory unless you ask them! Radiator do get damage as it is just behind the grill, just think how much crap is thrown at the radiator, you should be happy if it is your first, How many times have you had your fuel filter change? how can it be skodas fault when the failure was pointed at fuel?

Trading standards? The car is 3 years and 120,000miles out of warrented,

VOSA you are joking aint you

Customs & excise  you really are having a laugh aint you?

Painting the inside of a fuel tank?!

I imagined SKODA/VAG jumped on the plastic fuel tank bandwagon years ago.

Come on guys, he has had a fuel problem and there is a body that ensures that the fuel is of merchantable quality, but I cannot remember what they are called, I don't know if its the custom and excise who go around checking the pumps give the right measures

That'll be trading standards which is contactable through the local council.

I had a possible fuel problem in my last car. It was a Shell garage and I had the receipt. I contacted Shell and was put in touch with their fuel checking department, who said they would do a test.

My local trusted garage bled some fuel, but couldn't see anything and found a problem with a camshaft sensor.

Some weeks later Shell rang me to say the fuel had been tested and found to be fine.

The next week, the garage closed and they excavated round the tanks. A month or two later they closed again and all the tanks were replaced.

It might have been coincidence, but now I always keep my receipt for a few weeks and if it happened again, I'd insist on a written copy of their report into the fuel test.

He hasnt got a bill, how can he prove he fill his car there? if the fuel was that bad there would have been many many more complains

most garage forecourts have cctv may be a route to go down as it would show the time and date and the pump used

if he is a taxi driver shouldnt he have got a bill to claim the tax back?

Aren't we getting off topic slightly?

I think Jim was only asking for help. If he says he hasn't got a receipt for the fuel then I would assume that he hasn't? Skippy was trying to help...I can't see any reason why he would be 'having a laugh' or 'joking'?

Sorry, but I haven't been a member on here for that long but some of the posts seem to be getting more and more disrespectful to other members...or is it just me that feels that way?

Thanks for that Bouff, That's all im trying to is help the guy, he has stated he bought the fuel at the garage where he gets it serviced even though he did not get a receipt, most taxi drivers dont or forget to get one if in a hurry

But how could the fuel have been contaminated affecting the fuel pump, its either the fuel from there or someone has put something in the tank

Oh BTW he is a member on here Jim Lochrie

and was asking a fellow taxi driver

i Am not being nasty, but the car is out of warrentee by a long way, the fault was pointed at fuel contamination, Since the garage also service the car aswell and not tell you what it is, dont you think you can smell a rat there,

trading standard/vosa will not be interested if yours was the only car affected, if the fuel was that bad your car will not be the only affected. Can you found anyone else in same situ as you? Dipping the petrol station tank now will be too late as many tanks of fuel has gone though and all crap would have been gone by now. best place to see whats done it will be the fuel filter as most of it will be trap there
