superb 2.0 tdi engine workshop

Featured Replies

Hello

my 06 2.0 tdi has just come up with the engine workshop sign and the flashing glowplugs. It came on the car went sluggish as if no boost and switching the engine off and back on removed the light, I have had the fault code read and it states Boost Pressure Regulation: Limit Exceeded (Overboost Condition). I have looked around the internet and it seems the turbo may be sticking. The car has 113 k on it but was a company car until a couple of years and has spent its recent life mainly in town. I try and go out of town in it but this is maybe only once a week. Of note I gave the car a service on monday and this light came on about 20 mins into the next decent drive out. I joined from a slip road and it just put the light on. It now seems fine again as though nothing has happened.

Is it turbo replacement time or can it be cleaned? I know the turbo is only about 55k old as the car had a new engine at 55k due to problems with the oil pump and blowing turbos when it was under warranty.

I am due to do about 1200 miles over a week shortly and dont want to be worrying about the car playing up, any help is much appreciated!!

cheers

Tom

one could try and distmantle the turbo and give it a thorough clean...you might find some carbonated deposits that might make the turbo stiffish hence lack of power....check hoses for splits and renew as a matter of course. As for certain sensors, well only vagcom can find if there are any potential faults.

Might pay to check the oil filler cap on a regular basis.....like daily and see if oil is dripping off the underside of the cap itself, then you can be sure oil is flowing ok...if it looks dryish or no oil residue showing then suspect the oil pump...as it will go before the warning light comes up. When my oil pump failed and warning light came on, i checked the cap and it was dry, but turbo was ok, and just the engine was renewed. Pity the new engine came complete with oil pump as i already bought a new oil pump which was fitted , but engine was too damaged hence the new engine......so now i have a brand new oil pump that i'm gonna sell for a pretty reasonable price compared to the normal price plus vat.

I would sell it and buy another car.. :D

Yes, and I'd get rid of it sooner rather than later too.

problem is young baby and low cash flow = vectra doh!!! need a big car so wouldnt want to be in the same position with another diesel would have to be petrol for me!!

well both the 1.9 and 2.0 tdi have problems...the 1.9 edges ahead on the reliabilty stakes, so it's eother a case of swapping it ofr a 1.9.....or keeping the 2.0 and shell out on it occasionally....least you get a huge car for the money

What are the problems with the 1.9?

Rob

The 1.9 PD has virtually no problems as long as the correct oil is used and maintenance is properly carried out. Dealers are best avoided in the interests of getting the job done properly.

That's what I thought too....

Interesting replies, I have had the light reset and took the car out and it seems fine oddly, I have remembered after the service banging the front end on a kerb as I got off the drive and I am wondering if it has done something to the intercooler and threw the code up!! (wishful thinking). I looked at the intercooler pipe and it seemed to push back in. Will see how it goes and if it starts playing up get rid. I would look at the 1.9 but I am pampered with the elegance now so would have to get something like an edition 100! I got a good deal on mine so would have to put plenty of cash in for one of those!!

Does anyone know the part number for my turbo? I can only find listings for the 1.9 awx which I believe may be the same, skoda refused to tell me just wanted their £850 for the turbo plus a £250 surcharge!!

Can I fit a different turbo to get more power?

cheers

Tom
