Don't even start it with no oil pressure.

Is it a Mk1 or Mk2?

Your sig says Mk2 but this post is in the Mk1 forum.

What engine is it?

The oil pump is part of the balancer shaft assembly.

The assembly has to be timed up correctly, you also need to drop the front subframe to remove the sump.

To check the turbo take off the inlet pipe and check for oil and excessive play in the shaft.

Have you bought a pump yet? They are about £500 iirc

And the rest !! ...i was quoted for supply and fit a new oil pump including oil filter and gaskets £1300.00 and the garage was an independant who specialises in VW vehicles. It was just unfortunate the engine was more damaged than previously thought. Depending how fast you was doing in your car prior to the oil pressure warning light appearing, personally i would get the car towed. Then do a prelimenary check on the vital components...as the turbo costs more than the pump!!
