Found these HID headlights for a Mk 1 on Ebay , made in Taiwan but a quick google seems to suggest they are ok. I can't afford to do it at the minute but thought someone might be interested.

You'd still need the ballast boxes though.

You could buy an aftermarket kit with the correct D2S bulbs. That would be the cheap way of doing it.
