New stubby aerial

Featured Replies

Strange, i bought one from the same seller and have had no problem at all.

What happens if you put the original back on do you get a signal? if so maybe you have a bad one.

I think it has to do with your local signal strength. In London and the South East you can probably get FM without an aerial or with something very basic. I bought a similar aerial last year and it was also rubbish. I think the signal is a lot weaker this end of the country.

I heard somewhere that the aerial is sized for the head unit, which is why these small aerials and shark fins work with head units designed to use them. Of course, I could be talking total carp.:wonder:

yeah depends where you live, but its not the best for signal but i never use the radio tbh

By the way, I contacted the seller who said it could be the aerial at fault, or it could just be where I live. Since they couldn't discount a duff aerial, they offered me a refund. However they then claimed not to receive it and I had to put a claim into eBay to get a refund.

I purchased one of these earlier in year from the same e-bay seller. The aerial only picked up local stations and reception was generally very poor. Waste of money

So I went with one of the shorter aerials being fitted to the latest Octavias instead. You can see in the attached image the difference between the e-bay stubby aerial at the top, new shorter aerial from Skoda in the middle and the standard aerial at the bottom.

Also attached image of what aerial looks like on car

The part number from Skoda is 6R0 035 849 and costs £11.48 exc VAT.

Does it work ok?

Yes, sorry should have said that the newer shorter Skoda aerial works just as good as the standard one. I have not noticed any difference at all.

Looks good worth considering.....

Looks like a nice mod to me

Just replaced mine on the Octavia with the VW/Skoda stubby one.

Original bee sting is slightly different as it has a safety feature on the end meaning that even if fully unscrewed it won't come off - you have to pull this reasonably hard to release. The thread is exposed by about 5-6mm.

However the stubby one doesn't have any thread exposed so I had to 'modify' with a Stanley knife!! Trimmed about 4-5mm off the bottom of the aerial so that the thread would bite. Looks just the job AND radio reception on my Stream isn't noticeably different. Test will be when I goto Central London in a few weeks.
