Android 2.2 voice recognition

Featured Replies

I've had a Android 2.2 HTC Desire since December, and I've yet to get any decent results out of the voice recognition. Is it just me? Does it learn what you want to do if you keep trying?

For example, on my way home from work I started up Google Maps Navigation. I used the Speak Destination feature and said "Navigate to Home". No joy. Then I just said "Home" and it came up with a little box saying "Navigate to Home?" and then a list of addresses that look like they were pulled from yellow pages or something, nothing to do with where I live.

I do have a Contact saved in my phone under "home", so shouldn't it have found it?

Not just you. :(

Edit: Just noticed that my phone has done a 'Voice Search' update but haven't tested it again yet. Maybe this cures everything lol?

Nope, still rubbish. In fact, I just found out that not all of the "Actions" are available unless you have the language set to "US English" or "Generic English". Setting the language to "UK English" disables some of the voice actions! WTF!!!! :grr:
